View Full Version : The CW Cancels "Legends of the Hidden Temple"
JamesG 12-17-2019, 12:06 PM Nickelodeon’s "Legends of the Hidden Temple" to be Reimagined for Quibi

December 16, 2019
The ’90s continue to take over pop culture as Quibi revealed today that they are reimagining Nickelodeon’s iconic game show "Legends of the Hidden Temple".
From the Shrine of the Silver Monkey to scary Temple Guards, Quibi has set a revival of the kids game show from the ’90s that included teams competing against one another to retrieve “historical artifacts” in a Mayan-themed temple by performing physical challenges and asking trivia questions.
The new iteration will be bigger and better as they take some of the original elements of the show and set them in a scaled-up jungle setting with tougher challenges. This includes the Moat Crossing, the iconic Temple Run and, of course, the talking Olmec statue.
Quibi is set to launch on April 6, 2020.

May 11, 2021
The CW is hunting for the "Legends of the Hidden Temple" after ordering a reboot of the classic Nickelodeon adventure format. This comes after the series was previously set to be rebooted by the short-lived short-form service Quibi.
The reboot will be produced by Stone & Company, which produced the original series that ran on Nickelodeon for three seasons between 1993-95.
The adult version will preserve many of the original show including Olmec, the giant talking Mayan head, the Moat Crossings, The Steps of Knowledge and the Temple Run as well as the team names such as Purple Parrots, Blue Barracudas, Orange Iguanas, Red Jaguars, Silver Snakes and Green Monkeys.
However, this version will be taken out of the studio and scaled up with tougher challenges and bigger prizes as the contestants find their way through the “jungle.”
Scott A. Stone, one of the original creators along with David G. Stanley and Stephen R. Brown, will exec produce with Marcus Fox, exec producer of Nickelodeon’s Paradise Run.
It was not announced if original host Kirk Fogg will return.

JamesG 07-21-2021, 08:53 PM Dee Bradley Baker to Return as Olmec’s Voice for The CW "Legends of the Hidden Temple" Reboot
by Alexandra Del Rosario
July 21, 2021
Dee Bradley Baker will make his return to "Legends of The Hidden Temple", more than 20 years since the original series’ first run. Baker is set to reprise his role as the voice of Olmec in the upcoming reboot for The CW.
Baker’s Olmec was a giant talking Mayan head that served as the series’ most recognizable symbol. Olmec made announcements, explained various challenges and asked tiebreaker questions in various episodes of the original series. Baker joins Cristela Alonzo, who will host the reboot.
“When we asked Dee Bradley Baker to return as the one and only Olmec – our giant talking stone head, and he said, ‘Let’s Rock,’ that was all I had to hear…Olmec lives,” said executive producer Scott Stone.

The CW's Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot makes the mistake of trying to appeal to the adults who watched the Nickelodeon original as kids (https://variety.com/2021/tv/reviews/legends-of-the-hidden-temple-reboot-review-1235083249/)
"The show’s struggle to distinguish itself from so many others on television might not be as damning, or at least not as immediately noticeable, if it were still about kids and for kids as the original Legends was," says Caroline Framke of the Cristela Alonzo-hosted reality game show competition. "But this one, produced for a network aimed more at those who grew up on shows like Legends of the Hidden Temple rather than those who are still growing up, makes the fatal mistake of casting adults rather than children as its contestants. Watching people in their twenties and thirties struggle to remember details of a legend and assemble the once iconic silver monkey only highlights how basic this show really is. It’s probably just as well that the CW appears to be targeting an audience that already knows and likes what Legends of the Hidden Temple is about, since it’s hard to imagine anyone else tuning in for long." JamesG 06-03-2022, 07:19 PM "Legends of the Hidden Temple" Reboot Cancelled at The CW after 1 Season
by Rebecca Iannucci
June 3, 2022
The CW's reboot of "Legends of the Hidden Temple" has been cancelled after one season, TVLine has confirmed.
"Hidden Temple" over its 13-episode run averaged not quite 300,000 total viewers and just a 0.1 demo rating — and that’s with Live+7 playback factored in. Out of everything The CW aired this past TV season, it only drew a larger audience than "Killer Camp" and "March".
The Season 1 finale, now serving as the series finale, aired Jan. 16.
