Anna Karina, star of French New Wave cinema, has died at 79

(CNN)French New Wave actress Anna Karina has died of cancer, her agent told CNN.
"Beyond what she represented and the legend around her, the most important thing to remember about Anna is that she was a free spirit," Laurent Balandras told CNN. Karina "always remained so humble, so appreciative of all the opportunities she was given," the agent added.
Karina died Saturday in Paris at the age of 79.
She was "an incredible ambassador of the French cinema," Balandras said.

I became familiar with Anna's work through my wife when we were still dating, my wife who was and is a huge fan of the French New Wave expanded my horizon on these films, I had seen Alphaville which starred Anna Karina, but that was about it, but my wife showed me the film Anna wrote/directed/starred in The Nun aka La religieuse (1966) and several other of her films, and the films later on when they became more accessible thanks to the Internet.

Always magical, even in a movie that really wasn't - The Magus (1968)

Another film of hers I'm a fan of is Made In The USA (1966), Karina's final film with director Jean-Luc Godard. This was Godard's surreal homage to American Noir/crime films.
