Where did that idea come from? It was admittedly a pretty novel concept to have one of main character's school teachers also be his next door neighbor. I sometimes wonder if the producers were partially influenced by Wilson on Home Improvement. Like Mr. Fenny, Wilson was this wise, old sage type character who was always near-by somehow.
