Bridget Mendler (http://bridgitmendlersboy.blogspot.com/) rose to prominence in the late 2000s with her being featured in Disney’s (https://www.fame10.com/entertainment/8-disney-stars-who-disappeared/) Wizards Of Waverly Place as Juliet playing a love interest of the actor David Henrie following that minor role she was given a main role in Good Luck Charlie (https://www.j-14.com/posts/good-luck-charlie-cast-see-where-the-disney-stars-are-now/) starring as Teddy Duncan went on to release her hit single “Ready or Not?” and went on a decline (https://www.reddit.com/r/popheads/comments/81eh80/what_happened_to_bridgit_mendler/).

Not that this is necessarily the sole reason why Bridgit Mendler fell off but being signed to Hollywood Records was a double-edged sword. On one end, Disney would’ve made sure that her albums were marketed way better and pushed way more than had she signed with say, Warner Bros. like Ashley Tisdale did. Plus, at that time, basically everything Hollywood Records touched (beginning with Hilary Duff) turned to gold.

On the other end however, artists presumably get less (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_8lLQfl2Jc&lc=Ugx2gop3hKeR0tNDNmd4AaABAg.9Mgp6DFSdQb9MhHmFc8cqv) creative control or freedom at Hollywood Records. Basically, even if your album isn't explicit with curse words, you can't have any 'dirty' or sexual orientated lyrics. Going back to Ashley Tisdale for a moment, she more than likely couldn't have recorded songs such as "He Said, She Said" with Hollywood Records.

Also, Hollywood Records is notorious for only supporting you while they can use your Disney show to promote your music. Every Disney star from Vanessa Hudgens, Aly and AJ, Hilary Duff, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Bridget Mendler, etc. started getting less and less support from the label once their respective TV series or movie series wrapped up. So it can't be that surprising that Bridget's music career started getting less and less attention or heat as soon as Good Luck Charlie wrapped up in 2014.

The last I heard, she was in Seasons 2 and 3 of the NBC sitcom "Undateable," and then got married.

Disney star's reason for leaving her career behind shocks fans: 'Not what I expected' (https://www.yahoo.com/news/former-disney-star-unexpected-career-134245595.html)

Twitter users were stunned after finding out that a former Disney Channel star is now getting her Ph.D. at MIT.

Bridgit Mendler, a 28-year-old actress, is best known for playing the dependable older sister in Good Luck Charlie from 2010 to 2014. She also starred in the 2011 movie Lemonade Mouth — a movie about a fictional band — which drew attention to her singing ability and launched her career as a platinum recording artist.

That’s enough for anyone to be proud of, but Mendler didn’t stop there.

As one Twitter user pointed out in a viral tweet (https://twitter.com/_waterslut/status/1373692719491612672), she’s now studying at a prestigious university.

According to MIT’s website (https://www.media.mit.edu/people/bridgitm/overview/), Mendler is “a Ph.D. student at the MIT Media Lab with a focus on technologies that support inclusive and collaborative governance and citizen engagement.”

The site acknowledges her past career in entertainment as well, noting that her online interactions with fans “inspired her interest in social platforms as a means for bringing more voices, experiences and expertise to government decision-making.”

Her LinkedIn notes (https://www.linkedin.com/in/bridgit-mendler/) that she’s been in the program for more than three and a half years, but it’s not clear when she’ll finish her studies. Per her LinkedIn, she previously earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree from MIT.

Mendler hasn’t released new music since 2017 and hasn’t acted since 2019. It’s possible her career in the spotlight isn’t totally over, but it’s certainly met its temporary end.

Fans were impressed by her pivot to academia.

“What a role model,” one said (https://twitter.com/BackseatVC/status/1374532122535411713?s=20).

“An accomplished woman,” another wrote (https://twitter.com/alexqpryor/status/1373875012445339648?s=20).

“Not what I expected,” a third commented (https://twitter.com/_waterslut/status/1373692719491612672).

She's more often concentrating on her own current marriage without distractions.

Did it just seem like Bridgit was never really able to shake off the image of being a Disney actress and fully transition into a serious artist in the way that other child/teen actors did (i.e. Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, etc.)? Would she had fared better if she came out a couple years earlier or later? Bridgit came out when Taylor Swift was at the height of her career. By watching Bridgit, couldn't you tell that was the direction she and her "machine" were trying to go down to? But the general public likely felt that there was only room for one blonde. And maybe Bridgit wasn't dedicated enough keep pushing her music either as she kind of fell off after her second single 'Hurricane' didn't do so well.

Another likely reason why Bridgit was unable to sustain her popularity is that she was unable to become a popular face or household name outside of Disney. TV Tropes has this page called "Pop Culture Isolation" (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PopCultureIsolation), and that pretty much applies to Bridgit Mendler. People who watched her on Good Luck Charlie or Lemonade Mouth and watch Disney Channel regularly, of course knew who she was. But she never really broke out into the "mainstream" the same way as say Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Zendaya, or Olivia Rodrigo were able to do. The main point is that Bridgit's reach was pretty limited since there weren't a lot of people who heard of her outside of people who were already fans.

Maybe had Undateable been more successful, she could've had a better shot at crossing over. But it wasn't like she worked hard to try to sustain her career. I believe that was signed to Disney's label Hollywood and after releasing the album, she went to college and purposefully fell out of the spotlight.

Former Disney Star Bridgit Mendler (Good Luck Charlie) Is Now a Space CEO of a Startup Called Northwood Space (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/former-disney-star-bridgit-mendler-good-luck-charlie-is-now-a-space-ceo-of-a-startup-called-northwood-space.5531727/)

Bridgit Mendler is no stranger to reaching millions of people — now she wants to change how satellite data reaches the ground.

A former Disney Channel star and singer — with a filmography (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1847099/) including “Good Luck Charlie,” “Wizards of Waverly Place” and “The Clique” — Mendler has spent the past several years studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Law School.

By way of her self-described “engineering household” and time at the Federal Communications Commission’s new Space Bureau, where she “completely fell in love with space law,” Mendler is launching a new career (https://www.cnbc.com/2024/02/19/disney-star-bridgit-mendler-launches-satellite-startup-northwood-space.html) in the space industry as CEO of startup Northwood Space, based in El Segundo, California.

“The vision is a data highway between Earth and space,” Mendler told CNBC. “Space is getting easier along so many different dimensions but still the actual exercise of sending data to and from space is difficult. You have difficulty finding an access point for contacting your satellite.”

Rather than build rockets or satellites, Northwood aims to mass produce ground stations. Also known as teleports, ground stations are the typically large and often circular antennas that connect to satellites in space.

Already, Northwood is attracting high-profile venture investors, with about $6 million in initial funding raised from investors including Founders Fund, Andreessen Horowitz and Also Capital.

Mendler is building Northwood with two cofounders: the startup’s chief technology officer, and her husband, Griffin Cleverly, as well as head of software Shaurya Luthra.

Both Cleverly and Luthra spent time at Lockheed Martin as engineers. The former recently spent time at the Mitre Corporation working on communications, and the latter spent nearly four years building the ground station network of satellite imagery venture Capella Space.

Northwood’s name stems from a lake in New Hampshire where Mendler said the idea for the company originated while she was spending time with family during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“While everybody else was making their sourdough starters, we were building antennas out of random crap we could find at Home Depot … and receiving data from [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] satellites,” Mendler said.

“For me, why the ground-side matters is because it actually is about bringing the impacts of space home to people,” Mendler added.
