View Full Version : So a character that lived in the Winslow House was removed but........
TVFactFan 12-01-2019, 01:01 AM a character that added NOTHING to the show was allowed to stay on? So budget issues means you get rid of family member instead of a friend who didnt live in the house?
Waldo over Judy?????? I will never understand that
Wawwie 12-01-2019, 01:24 AM They also got rid of Eddie's friend Rodney. I liked him better than Waldo. At least Rodney had common sense.

Yes, Waldo was not needed
RetroGuy2000 12-01-2019, 04:50 AM After Judy disappeared without explanation, I couldn't watch the show anymore. It felt... sinister. As if the family was covering up her disappearance.

Is Waldo the reason why Judy was written out? Another character who of course started getting shown more was Myra. Let us not forget that another character who disappeared in the middle of the series like Judy did was Rachel.
God bless you always!!!

I can see rachel because she was just an Aunt but not one of harriets daughters lol

Yeah, but she just leaves her son behind? Was there ever any explanation as to why Richie was abandoned?
BTW, the little boy who played Richie is in his thirties now and he plays "Devon" on The Young & the Restless. He grew up to be very handsome! :)

Right it should have been rachel and richie not Judy
Lorimar Television 12-03-2019, 11:25 PM Seriously, it was so obvious. Rachel is already gone and producers wanna eliminate a character, why wouldn't it be her son?. Say they moved to their own place or something!

Thelma Hopkins left Family Matters because she got to have her own sitcom with Cindy Williams called 'Getting By' (on ABC). It lasted 31 episodes from 1993-94. The show had Deon Richmond (Bud from Cosby Show), Merlin Santana (Romeo from The Steve Harvey Show) as Thelma Hopkins' sons and Ashleigh Sterling, Nicki Vannice as Cindy Williams' daughter all living under one roof.
Also, on Family Matters during the 1997 Christmas episode (Deck The Halls) Eddie goes to pick Rachel up from Detroit where she had a job and brought her to the Winslow's for Christmas day. I would surmise that Rachel found a new job out of town and left Richie with the Winslow's to look after.
Deck The Halls Series Notes:
Final appearance of Jo Marie Payton and Bryton McClure as Harriette Winslow and Richie Crawford, including Rosetta Le Noire and Telma Hopkins as Estelle Winslow and Rachel Crawford respectively.
By this point in the season Michelle Thomas’ illness had begun to take its toll on her. To accommodate her unfortunate situation, Jaleel White handled most of the physical comedy. When not speaking dialogue, she stood in the background, and was very noticeably in pain during some of those shots.

I don't agree that Waldo added nothing to the show.
That said, he too disappeared after the 7th season was over.

I didnt watch the show much in season 8 and 9

I know it was only TV but it made me so upset that someone as weird and ugly as waldo had a girlfriend like Max:lol:

Maxine was a pretty girl and she was smart, funny and popular. In real life, I doubt a weird looking doofis dummy like Waldo could ever get someone like her.

Waldo was ugly as shet

I don't know what your definition of ugly is but Waldo was a nice looking young man on the tv show but don't let the truth get in the way of your fictitious post.

Eddie was much better looking than Waldo in my opinion.
icecream 08-10-2021, 09:28 PM Waldo was really funny, the Family Matters version of Lowell on Wings and Bull on Night Court. The annoying one was Ritchie.

Why pit one against the other? What purpose does that really serve?

In-universe, Max is meant to be no way near as pretty and awesome as Laura.
It is worth remembering too that Max had rotten luck with her boyfriends before Waldo.
Yeah, they did a sub-plot in one episode about him being extremely jealous if a guy just talked to Max.
But they could work it out and became one of my favorite couples on this show.

I agree, but I found Waldo funnier and (mostly) more likable.
Superswiper 10-01-2021, 02:35 PM Waldo was one of my favorite characters in the show. While I was sad to See Judy leave, I'm glad Waldo stuck around for awhile.
SimpsonsFan 10-05-2021, 05:24 PM Don't worry. In that one episode, Eddie convinced Waldo to take the ugly girl:
Eddie: Now remember Waldo, if we find two girls, I get the ugly one.
Waldo: Hey, How come you always get first pick?
Eddie: Alright, you can have the ugly one.
Waldo: That's better
SimpsonsFan 10-05-2021, 05:33 PM I'm shocked to hear all this. Waldo was hilarious. He wasn't chosen "over" Judy. It just didn't work out b/c Foxworth wanted more scenes, but her character wasn't needed. Judy was not a character who revolved around Urkel. Waldo was his friend so was easier to feature him more. Richie also looked up to Urkel, so they had some scenes together.
It's unfortunate that producers couldn't get along with Foxworth more and that McClure be the problem. Aunt Rachel/Richie leaving would have been more ideal.

Actually, it is not like Jaimee Foxworth was old enough to demand anything.
Her mother was the one, who used to get on the nerves of the people in charge.
And really, they could have kept Judy without having her interact much with Steve.
There were almost always two parallell plots in every episode.
Alas, the witers and producers didn't care about Judy and didn't develope the character.

its weird that someone in the winslow household was removed without explanation instead of someone who didnt live inside the house. Waldo was funny but I need answers why judy was removed lol
SimpsonsFan 10-10-2021, 05:57 PM I agree. There's always a B-subplot. Instead of the repetitive Carl/Hariette arguing, it would have been nice to see some small stories about Judy. Plus, they eventually brought 3J. Like if they wanted 3 kids all along, why not just keep Judy lol.

So the Family Matters producers retaliated by first reducing Judy's role, then Chuck Cunninghaming her totally.

Sure, I don't believe that her mother helped.
But I suspect that the writers didn't know what to do with Judy anyway.

According to producers maybe, Jaimee maintains that her mom wasn’t demanding and would simply ask from time to time for Judy to get more screentime. She also said her mom wasn’t there that often.
SimpsonsFan 10-16-2021, 08:36 PM Yeah but that's a biased reply. She may have come off more pushy to the producers than she intended. Plus, it helped with budget costs to get rid of her.

Indeed, it is not like we were there and can say what happened for sure.
But I thought that Jaimee's parents used her money before she came off age?
