"The Conners" Poised to Introduce Adult Version of [Spoiler] in 2020
by Michael Ausiello
November 25, 2019

A long neglected Conner family member is set to resurface in a big way — and soon.

TVLine has learned that "The Conners" is getting ready to introduce Dan’s now-adult half-brother Ed later this season.

As "Roseanne" fans recall, “Little Ed” is the late-in-life child that Dan’s dad Ed Sr. (Ned Beatty) had with second wife Crystal (Natalie West). Ed Sr. and Crystal also had a daughter, Angela.

Now 21 years old, Ed Jr. is a college graduate who harbors some resentment towards his older brother for not helping care for their octogenarian dad. Casting is underway for what I’m told will be a recurring role.

That is really cool. Always wondered why they almost ignored that side of the family during the reboot. We got to see Crystal a few times, but she barely spoke. It's cool that we're sort of diving into new territory with a character who was still a toddler when the series ended. I'd love to see Lonnie and Angela as well.

We also need to see Jerry and Andy.

I'd love that. I know they mentioned Jerry; I don't think Andy's even been mentioned.

Actually, Ed should really be more like 26 years old and Harris should be about 23 because Darlene is 42 years old and she gave birth to Harris when she was 19.

I believe they have under-aged the entire cast by a few years. I view it as an artistic choice.

They didn't underage the girls, because Darlene said to Becky: "You're a 44 year old waitress."

That will be cool to see a grown up Little Ed!!:)

There may be characters they can’t mention depending on what characters Roseanne Barr agreed to give up during the time she agreed to leave when she was fired and they negotiated her departure.

But reports at the time stated she gave up "all rights" so that the show could continue.

Yes she gave it all away I believe.

"The Conners" Taps "Shameless" Fave to Play Adult Version of Ed
by Michael Ausiello

"The Conners‘" is making another completely "Shameless" casting decision, tapping Noel Fisher to assume the role of Dan’s now-adult half-brother Ed.

He’ll appear opposite "Shameless" co-star Emma Kenney, who plays David and Darlene’s demon spawn Harris. Fisher will appear in at least two episodes, the first of which will air in February.

Cool! Noel Fisher is great on shamless as a gay thug. Good choice. Hopefully, Ned Beattey can make an appearance or two.

Audrey should be deceased, as well, since both actresses that played her are dead.

How could Dan’s letters to Ed and Angela come back unopened when Crystal was just at his house when Roseanne died?

Rewatched the episode and it still doesn’t make any sense.....

So Crystal kept Ed and Angela away from Dan for twenty years?

It seems like there is dissociation that Ed Jr.'s mom is Crystal. Crystal was only mentioned in a flash back clip at the end of the most recent episode. But, Crystal's involvement in this spinoff has been so minimal, that maybe she has been kiboshed like Judy Winslow from Family Matters.

I also thought she was a friend of Jackie & Roseanne, but on one the more recent episodes (with Cheryl Hines as a guest-star), Jackie revealed she has no friends. (What happened to Nancy and Ann Marie)

Nancy doesn’t live in Llanford anymore and Ann Marie and Crystal were always more Roseanne’s friends. I’m wondering if they’re going to do a huge retcon and change Crystal being the mother of Ed and Angela. It would be ridiculous, but they’ve already declared that Andy doesn’t exist, so the writers will do anything.

So, not only did Crystal keep Ed and Angela away from Dan but she didn’t even tell Dan that Ed went to college??

This particular storyline is bothersome.

And now they've officially killed off the Ed Sr. character. I guess Ned Beatty is too old to resurrect his role. Sucks.

It’s just the back history of this story line isn’t making any sense RE: Crystal.

I am also confused about Crystal. Did she divorce Ed at some point?

We don’t know. It seems as if Ed took the kids and vanished for 20 years.

We don’t know. It seems as if Ed took the kids and vanished for 20 years.

But the house we saw Dan and Little Ed in... that was the same house Crystal and Ed lived in. How difficult could it have been to track them down, in Lanford, living in the same house they always did?!

With a good explanation, I am on board with this storyline, but we need more explained to us. As it is now, there are too many discrepancies. We need a Crystal Episode, stat!

CJMD03

I disagree. Crystal has always been a very annoying character. I think that the actor that plays Ed was only scheduled for two episodes and since it’s been two episodes, I think his run has ended.

RetroGuy2000

Well, then, how do viewers learn why Crystal's seen in recent seasons, but her husband, son, and daughter were incommunicado with the rest of the Conner clan?

I would even take a brief, five-minute explanation, in an otherwise Crystal-less storyline.

CJMD03

Just leave it alone and not make it any more convoluted.....
