E! rebooting The Soup with comedian Jade Catta-Preta (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/soup-revived-at-e-new-host-1253730)

Comedian and actress Jade Catta-Preta will succeed Joel McHale as host of a "reimagined" and "supercharged" (https://deadline.com/2019/11/the-soup-resurrected-e-jade-catta-preta-host-1202782564/) revival of The Soup in early 2020. E! announced the news via a promo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fD3x_Bjd1pg). McHale hosted The Soup from July 2004 until its cancelation in December 2015. The Brazilian-born Catta-Pretta is known for her standup comedy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xF27V5Qix9o). She has also had brief roles on Californication, The Office and Future Man. “We’re excited to bring this beloved franchise back to the network, with a new take on an old favorite,” said Rod Aissa, executive vice president of production and development, Oxygen and production, E! “Jade’s quick wit and keen observations will provide a much-needed voice in today’s pop culture landscape delivered in a way that only The Soup can.” The Soup franchise has a long history at E!, premiering as Talk Soup in 1991 with host Greg Kinnear. Talk Soup aired through 2002 with John Henson, Hal Sparks and Aisha Tyler as Kinnear's successors. McHale launched his updated spinoff The Soup in 2004. Catta-Preta tweeted (https://twitter.com/JadeCattaPreta/status/1193713551036145664) of the news: "Many many years in the making. Blood, sweat, tears and hours of reality tv. So excited to finally share that I’m the new host of @thesouptv!!"

The Soup's new host Jade Catta-Preta says the E! reboot will be less snarky and "bro-y" (https://ew.com/tv/2020/02/11/the-soup-host-jade-catta-preta-revamped-show-less-snarky/)

The Brazilian-born comedian, who officially succeeds Joel McHale starting tonight, says the new Soup stays true to the original format. But unlike the previous version, it won't look down on entertainment. Catta-Preta says more of the jokes will be aimed at her rather than the clips. "I think that for a long time, it was like a little bit bro-y, you know, which was (Joel’s) style and I loved and I think that people really, really loved," she says. "But I think it’s just a different time and different people want to relate to the show. For a long time, before I did stand up, I would go to these comedy shows, and every joke was putting down women and I would heckle. And so I just hope to bring in people that never felt like they had had a voice. I’m a woman. I’m gay on a good day. I’m an immigrant and I want those people that watched the show before and didn’t feel like it was relatable to them to have a voice and I just want it to feel like you’re watching it and it’s a friend making fun of stuff that you would make fun of." ALSO: Catta-Pretta says making fun of NBC Universal-owned shows is a "fine line. We can't pull up things that they probably don't want to hear about but you have to be able to make fun of yourself." When a simple clip show mocking bad TV needs to be explained/examined in terms of political correctness and cultural relevance, how can it ever be funny?
