Variety reports that Parker is attached to star and executive produce the potential reboot, which "picks up with the Botwin family 10 years after the events of the original series in an era of legalization." Weeds creator Jenji Kohan, whose Showtime comedy originally aired from 2005 to 2012, has no involvement in the potential reboot. The reboot will be written by former Weeds writer and co-executive producer Victoria Morrow. Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer is referring to the new Weeds as "Weeds 4.20." “As excited as we are about our new series, I want to remind everyone that ‘the old is also new,’ and we’re pleased to be bringing two of the most acclaimed shows in television history, Mad Men and Weeds, to the global syndication marketplace next year,” Feltheimer said during today's earnings call. “We will be launching the marketing campaign for Mad Men, winner of 16 Emmys and five Golden Globes during its eight-year run, later this month. And we’re thrilled to be back in business with series star and producer Mary Louise Parker on what we’re calling ‘Weeds 4.20,’ already in active development at Starz, as we prepare a comprehensive and integrated rollout for one of television’s most beloved properties.”

I don't know why.

I think the original series went on a bit longer than it should have.

Elizabeth Perkins hopes to be part of Starz's Weeds revival (https://people.com/tv/elizabeth-perkins-reveals-she-would-be-open-to-major-role-in-weeds-sequel-series-in-development/)

Perkins, who played Nancy Botwin's narcissistic neighbor Celia Hodes on the Showtime comedy, says she at least wants her character to be "sent out really well" because "she deserved a really big death."
