I think she was one of the nicest and most genuine girls ever. They finally profiled a girl on the show who wasn’t phony, rude, foolish, arrogant or creepy like Mary Tyler and Myra Parker. Gave you a good feeling.

It's amazing that they have any nice characters on that show. Those make true friends.

I always get Beverly Washburn and Bernadette Withers (Kitty Bannerman) mixed up. Actually Kitty was pretty nice too, and it was funny how both she and Wally were putting on airs.

Bernadette Withers recently died. Her main TV role was Ginger on Bachelor Father.

Other than Julie Foster's short fling with Wayne Gregory, she was pretty nice, too. "A smidge of a smudge."

And I guess we could say Ginny Townsend was a nice girl. Just had a few allergies and wasn’t an outdoors girl. I think she was allergic to sun and chicken. Gail Preston and Judy Walker were also nice. Oh Carolyn Schuster was a real pill. I guess they had their share of nice girls.

Maybe we should look at Beaver's girlfriends, and other girls he interacts with. Most of them were icky enough (Judy and Penny) to make him go back to his old feelings of hating girls. One that wasn't too bad was Donna Yeager, but her father was kind of a buffoon.

Then there's my favorite eighth-grade siren, Mary Margaret Matthews. Beaver was playing in the pony league while she was batting in the World Series, according to Wally. She wooed her "victims" on that porch swing. She liked how Whitey smelled, but that was just tar soap used to wash his hair that morning. Wally was worried enough about Mary Margaret that he warned Ward and June that they better see that Beaver got on the cross country bus. Wise move--Beaver was as ready for Mary Margaret as Wally was ready for Marlene Holmes. (NOT!)

Actually my favorite girl for Beaver, and the nicest one, was Linda Dennison. What a cutie!

I liked Linda too who later became Alice. Beaver didn’t have a lot of girls like Wally but let’s not forget Betsy Patterson, his first date, and Betsy Carter who wrote his autobiography. Then we have Peggy Macintosh, Violet Rutherford (a sweet girl) and Melinda Nielsen, from So. Carolina who left her manners back home. She turned into a shrew with claws.

Yup, Melinda was a Southern stinker. Both Veronica Cartwright's characters were really nice kids. Rather than playing Peggy in the S6 episode, they should have had her play Violet. Beaver really bungled the whole thing in that episode.

We did get to see him all alone in his room twisting to “was it Billy Baxter or that generic bee-bop.” I wish they used the jazzy music when we saw Wally’s haircomb that woulda been a riot. I bet Jerry hates seeing himself twisting in that promo. Who knows maybe he thinks he looks great.

I agree. Plus, I don't know why it was implied she was homely. I thought she looked just fine and would have made a great girlfriend or eventual wife as far as character development goes.

I don’t know why they implied she was homely. Eddie had a nerve calling her an owl and a gopher. He was no Fabian! Eddie did get quite nice looking in season 6 much better than season 1. When Jill is sitting with Wally at the malt shop she is very pretty and as Gomer would say “she’s nice.”
