I hope its true because this long taping ahead is killing them. TMC 11-12-2019, 04:35 PM Days of Our Lives cast released from their contracts amid renewal talks with NBC (https://tvline.com/2019/11/12/days-of-our-lives-cancelled-cast-fired-season-56/) Producers of the 54-year-old daytime soap opera (https://www.quora.com/Why-would-NBC-consider-cancelling-the-TV-show-Days-of-Our-Lives/answer/Jon-Mixon-1) has released the entire cast from their contracts and is set to put the show on hiatus at the end of the month, according to TVLine. "While the NBC sudser has not been cancelled, the unprecedented — and decidedly ominous — move comes at a precarious time for ratings-challenged Days and the vanishing soap genre as a whole," says TVLine's Michael Ausiello. "It also comes as Sony Pictures Television and NBC are in negotiations to renew series." A Sony source tells him the studio isn't involved in the cast contract negotiations and that the deals are done through Corday Productions, which declined to comment. "An insider cautions that because Days shoots eight months in advance, the show will have enough episodes in the can when it stops production at the end of November to last through Summer 2020," says Ausiello. "If NBC does renew Days, production is expected to resume in March. But by releasing the contracted cast members from from their commitment to the show, producers have no guarantee who — if anyone — will return." As one source put it, the cast could return at a much lower salary if there is a renewal. Days of Our Lives star: "Today is Tuesday, November 12th, and we are still here and we are not going anywhere" (https://www.thewrap.com/days-of-our-lives-star-on-cancellation-rumors-we-are-not-going-anywhere/) "You heard it here first, folks. Don’t listen to the news, always — especially that report,” Days star Kristian Alfonso said in an Instagram video (https://www.instagram.com/p/B4yHllKg2hG/) in response to the news that the entire cast has been released (https://www.primetimer.com/item/Days-of-Our-Lives-cast-released-from-their-contracts-amid-renewal-talks-with-NBC-70Sqkg) from their contracts amid renewal talks (https://www.quora.com/Why-did-the-producers-of-Days-of-Our-Lives-release-the-entire-cast-from-their-contracts/answer/Matt-Cormier-2) with NBC. Schmoopie 11-13-2019, 08:26 AM I love Matthew Ashford who plays Jack and I watched Days for years, but honestly they should have canceled it a long time ago. I think it's probably headed in that direction to be honest. loaferman 11-13-2019, 01:36 PM I remember when ABC canceled "The Edge of Night" back in December of '84. They were said to be making a deal to move to syndication and even wasted the finale on starting a new mystery for the show to have a place to pick back up, but that unfortunately wasn't to be. I assume with "Days" they won't scrap 8 months worth of filming and eat that kind of loss. However releasing the entire cast means probable cancellation or moving to a much cheaper format. Doing similarly killed "The Guiding Light" which got filmed outdoors at the end. If viewers know the show will end when they show the remaining episodes I suspect a lot of the audience will vanish. Obviously negotiations are not going well. Good luck Days fans. Wawwie 11-13-2019, 03:48 PM I always loved Days and I watched it for decades, but once they started propping a serial killer and turning illegal immigrants into victims, I just couldn't take it anymore and quit. The show deserves to be cancelled IMO. I could have dealt with the whole immigration story even though it made me sick, but the last straw was the writers turning a serial killer into some sort of hero/romantic lead. The propping was absolutely nauseating for me. Sad how far it's fallen. 80sTrivia 11-14-2019, 05:43 AM I know some of the actors are saying the show isn't to be cancelled, but this all looks and sounds pretty darn bleak. Daytime soaps are truly the endangered dinosaur of the entertainment industry, and I do see a day not-too-far in the future where they will no longer be any airing on US television. TMC 11-21-2019, 08:01 PM Days of Our Lives reportedly renewed for Season 56 (https://deadline.com/2019/11/days-of-our-lives-renewed-season-56-nbc-1202792383/) It's not official, but Days of Our Lives executive producer Ken Corday "just delivered the news to the cast," according to Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, who adds: "NBC and Sony TV had no comment through I had been hearing for the last week or so that renewal was 'looking good.' According to sources, the deal with the network is not completely done but is close." The news comes 10 days after the entire cast was reportedly released from their contracts (https://www.primetimer.com/item/Days-of-Our-Lives-cast-released-from-their-contracts-amid-renewal-talks-with-NBC-70Sqkg). |
