Fox Unveils Midseason 2020 Schedule: "Last Man Standing's" XL Return
by Michael Ausiello
October 24, 2019

"Last Man Standing" fans will be seeing double when Tim Allen and Co. return with Season 8 early next year.

In announcing its midseason schedule, Fox revealed that the revived sitcom will air back-to-back episodes for three consecutive Thursdays from 8-9 pm beginning Jan. 2. (WWE SmackDown’s Friday takeover led Fox to relocate Last Man Standing to Thursdays).

Thursday, Jan. 23, "Last Man Standing" will be paired with the new Jason Biggs/Maggie Lawson comedy "Outmatched".

The big question is, now that its official, is how will the show do with Young Sheldon being on at the same time.

God bless you always!!!

P.S. This takes me back to when the college year season of Saved By The Bell was on during the same time as Full House in 1993-1994. Saved By The Bell of course never went any further except for the movie that was done at the end of that year about Kelly and Zack's wedding.

I was afraid that Last Man Standing would have a shortened season because of Thursday Night Football and two XFL games scheduled for early April. Seeing FOX-TV schedule double-feature episodes for the first three weeks of LMS's eighth season have quelled those fears, because it's an indication that Fox-TV will still try to fit a full season of 22 episodes before the end of May.

FOX-TV has done this with every season of 24 after its fifth one, and NBC did it with season six of The Blacklist last season (2018-19), as well as season one of 3rd Rock from the Sun (January-May 1996, 20 episodes).

The big question is, now that its official, is how will the show do with Young Sheldon being on at the same time.

And Superstore, too (Not a fan of Young Sheldon, BTW).

Clearly the move to Thursdays from Fridays was out of necessity. I think you're acting as if FOX-TV could realistically cancel Last Man Standing after this season (which would be its second cancellation) :(. LMS will be safe as long as its live viewership stays above five million, even with FOX-TV's schedule being as tight as it is right now. :)

After 10 episodes, season eight of Last Man Standing is averaging a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demo and 6.8 million total viewers in terms of Live+7.

I think there's been some speculation that Last Man Standing could end up cancelled by FOX-TV after this season, which would put it in a position similar to May of 2017. Negotiations for a ninth-overall season for LMS could go bad because of Tim Allen's per-episode salary. It's FOX-TV's best live action comedy they have right now; In terms of Live+SD ratings, it's the third-most-watched show on the network, and demo-wise, it's in the middle of the pack. I was hoping LMS got to at least four seasons on FOX-TV before its run ends for good.

If the show were to end after the current season, I would be satisfied since it at least was able to stick around for as long as Home Improvement was able to last.

God bless you always!!!

Last Man Standing -- which was to tape its season finale on Tuesday -- and The Orville are also shutting down over coronavirus (https://deadline.com/2020/03/last-man-standing-the-orville-shut-down-over-production-coronavirus-1202883985/)

^^^ Thanks for the news. What I want to know is how much longer the show was supposed to go on for anyway considering how old it already is. Was it going to be back in the fall for another season. Does that even matter anymore now considering the way that everyone is looking at the corona sickness issue. In my opinion, this corona sickness is no different compared to everything else out there that can be life threatening. At the end of the day, it all comes down to a person's attitude and their frame of mind and that is how it is for any matter that people take the time and thought to acknowledge.

God bless you always!!!

P.S. It may be all about the power of suggestion, POS for short and we all know what it is that POS can also stand for!!!
