View Full Version : Elton John's Diamonds
Hawkee 10-19-2019, 12:15 AM Today I got Elton John's Diamonds and I would like to know if you have gotten this album? Diamonds is supposed to have all of Elton John's greatest hits ranging from the debut album to Elton John's most recent album and it was released to honor the movie Rocketman

Good stuff. Did you get the 1 CD, 2 CD, or 3 CD version?
Hawkee 10-19-2019, 01:18 AM I got the album with the blue cover and I'm going to listen to it tomorrow. What's the difference between the 1 CD version and the 4 CD version of Elton John's Diamonds? Because the version Walmart had was with a red cover and so I'm wondering if it has more songs and remixes and a DVD of videos

Sorry, I don’t know. More songs I guess? I just know Amazon has a 1, 2, or 3 CD version.
Enjoy it tomorrow

"Best" is too subjective, but I'm sure lots of people have that as their favorite.
1960'sTVfan 10-19-2019, 06:07 PM Elton John is legendary, probably the best melody writer in the business. Not all of his songs are great, he's had his share of duds over the years but overall he's been an amazingly consistent songwriter and keeps coming up with catchy melodies.
Difficult for me to choose a favorite hit song of his because he's had so many good ones, but I can say this, Elton's period of peak popularity in the USA seemed to begin in the fall of 1974 when the song "The Bitch Is Back" was a hit on the charts. Elton then rode that peak all the way through 1975, he was immensely popular in '75 and I think that was Elton's peak year of popularity in the USA. In 1976, Elton had the hit "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" with Kiki Dee, but his album "Blue Moves" from that year wasn't all that well received. By 1977, Elton had pretty much fallen off the radar and stayed that way until he began a comeback in the 1980's with a string of good albums and several hit singles.
"21 At 33" is a very good Elton John album, unfairly underrated. "The Fox" is a good album too. "Jump Up" and "Too Low For Zero" are also good. "Leather Jackets" from 1986 is an album that some people dislike, but I like it and I think it's a better album than "Ice On Fire", which came out the year before in 1985.

Elton John the music writer and Bernie Taupin the lyric writer.
During Elton's down period in the late 1970's, he had split with Bernie Taupin and collaborated with Gary Osborne for the "A Single Man" album in 1978. Not a favorite album of mine, I have it but haven't listened to it in a long time.

They did team up again after the split. Some of Bernie's lyrics were not the best, admittedly.

Yes, the Elton/Bernie split didn't last that long. On the albums "21 At 33", "The Fox", and "Jump Up", Bernie Taupin shares songwriting credit on some of the songs. On the "Too Low For Zero" album, it's all Elton and Bernie again.
Hawkee 10-24-2019, 11:59 PM I finally got to listen to my copy of Elton John's Diamonds today and it's such a fantastic collection of Elton John's best songs from Island Girl to Tiny Dancer but I thought it would have more of the 80's Elton John hits like Nikita Sad Songs Little Jeannie and Sacrifice. And also some of the 90's hits are missing such as The One and Blessed Believe and Made In England from Elton John's 1995 album of the same name and Something About The Way You Look Tonight from the album The Big Picture. But at least the original Candle In The Wind is there and Daniel as well. Mom likes some of Elton John's songs and has two albums including the single of the 1997 version of Candle In The Wind written about Princess Diana so it's my first Elton John cd. I was also surprised to see Elton's version of Can You Feel The Love Tonight from The Lion King featured on it and they should've put his version of Circle Of Life on it too. But it's a great choice for any Elton John fan as a starter collection

DadTheKing 10-25-2019, 02:26 AM Hi, Bestie! I like Crocodile rock the best. I do like some of his other songs. I think he is a genius, and when he has to, he makes great music. But he has to want to. How many years has he been in the music business? When he started out, he looked like a little nerd boy and now he looks like the character from the movie "Leprechaun".
