View Full Version : Does "Reba" send a bad message? TMC 10-16-2019, 08:11 PM That homewreckers like Barbara Jean can continue to intrude into your broken lives? Wawwie 10-16-2019, 08:31 PM I never watched the show regularly, but when I did watch it, I always wondered why the hell Reba remained friends with the woman who took her husband. JO Sweet Heart 11-02-2019, 02:19 PM That homewreckers like Barbara Jean can continue to intrude into your broken lives? I get where you are coming from, but in my opinion, Barbra Jean was a different kind of homewrecker as you call her. Normally a person in her position isn't so well meaning and willing to help others out like she did. When Reba had the work done on her eye sight in season five, Barbra Jean is who was there for Reba when Cheyenne goes off to be with friends. God bless you always!!! Holly P.S. To me, what sent the wrong message was letting Cheyenne get away with everything. She is the reason why Kyra wants to go and be with her dad at the end of season two. I didn't watch the show regularly either, but most of the time it seemed like Barbara Jean was nuisance that Reba tolerated because BJ was step mom to Reba's kids. Barbara Jean was inserting herself into Reba's life and driving Reba crazy. It's like Barbara Jean just couldn't grasp that Reba wouldn't want the woman who had an affair with her husband, and eventually married him, to be a part of her life. Chocolate Moose 11-04-2019, 11:44 AM I don't know if I'd say that, but I don't think the story would be something people would watch in this day and age. I never watched the show regularly, but when I did watch it, I always wondered why the hell Reba remained friends with the woman who took her husband. The show was stupid. Barbara Jean (the husband stealer) & Reba's friendship is both ridiculous and unrealistic. IMO, the show also sends a bad message with Cheyenne getting married in high school just because she's pregnant. Dumb. She could have just had the baby and live life as a single mom co-parenting with the father. Teen marriage? Yeah, I think that's also a terrible message. JO Sweet Heart 05-14-2021, 04:23 PM ^^^ Another thing that I failed to mention in my earlier message is that whatever good that Barbra Jean was responsible for after she and Brock got together was like her trying to make up for her indiscretion. Most people in her position would never try to make up for the wrong that they were guilty of. I love when Barbra Jean baby sits Kyra and Jake once they are home from school because Reba starts going to work for Dr. Fisher in season two. God bless you always!!! Holly TVLegend 03-22-2022, 03:53 PM Yes, it does. After watching this show for a while on Hallmark, to be honest, I don’t care for it. When the kids are the BEST part of a show, usually that says something. “Home wreckers” like Barbara Jean should be arrested, but since this is just a sitcom, she can barge into Reba’s home like a nut from the mental hospital whenever she damn well pleases. Also, men should strive to be more like Brock and Van: A middle aged loser who cheats on his wife with a full-figured, obnoxious blonde and a total dense who would probably spend his time watching Caillou if he could. Also, ladies, remember, teenage pregnancy is awesome, and is really great when you purposely get knocked up and have to take it upon yourself to care for a child when you’re still one! Nevermind, on second thought, teenage pregnancy probably isn’t the best thing in the world: try getting pregnant at 11 or 12, now THAT’s even more exciting. Goldilocks 07-27-2022, 01:57 PM I was annoyed at airhead Barbra Jean and how she was always hanging around. Yeah, I know it was a sitcom but still. Homewrecker wouldn't be allowed in my home! Everytime I see that actress on "Young Sheldon", all I can see is Barbra Jean. TMC 09-20-2023, 11:58 PM I was annoyed at airhead Barbra Jean and how she was always hanging around. Yeah, I know it was a sitcom but still. Homewrecker wouldn't be allowed in my home! Everytime I see that actress on "Young Sheldon", all I can see is Barbra Jean. As others have said (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/how-did-reba-put-up-with-these-two.3726740/post-68155070), Reba when you get right down to it, looked like a really hard so to make comedy out of because the show is based on something so heartbreaking and mean. And the Reba Hart character is treated so poorly by EVERYBODY on the show. JO Sweet Heart 09-21-2023, 03:46 PM ^^^ The good thing about Reba is that she never just stood there and took whatever was thrown at her. In other words, she would only give it right back. One of my most favorite exchanges on the show is when she asks Kyra, "What new and exciting things do you want to do today?" When Kyra said, "How about I just complain about the way that things end up going where my life is concerned?" Reba then said to her in return with a smile, "I said new and exciting!" :D :D :D God bless you always!!! Holly P.S. I forget which episode that happened in exactly, but I do remember that it was somewhere during season four. :) :) :) |
