Are there any shows that completely fell apart due to the loathsome writing (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TorchTheFranchiseAndRun)? Like it's as if the writers didn't care at all about how the fans felt.

View Full Version : Series that were seemingly or intentionally set up to fail by the writers/producers TMC 10-07-2019, 03:27 AM Are there any shows that completely fell apart due to the loathsome writing (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TorchTheFranchiseAndRun)? Chocolate Moose 10-07-2019, 02:45 PM That Kevin James show, for one. dee2364 10-08-2019, 11:12 AM At first I thought there wasn't a possible answer to this question, and then I realized, "Yes, there is!" There have been shows that the writers never thought would last more than a season and then they wound up getting caught with their pants down when the shows got renewed. So then they go, ":censored: it," and write like mentally challenged four year olds so that there's no way in hell a TV executive would think of renewing it again. Two that I can think of are Revolution and Under the Dome. The writing was laughably, atrociously bad. Like, "These writers are just picking up a paycheck at this point." I think The Following was another one those shows where the writers just didn't care anymore and were just picking up a paycheck. Heenan Fan 10-08-2019, 11:27 PM Newsradio seems to have been determined to undermine any kind of direction from the network. Even episode titles seem to be deliberately obtuse for anyone who might want to know what an episode was about. Newsradio after Phil Hartman was murdered and all the controversy surrounding it was certainly set up to fail imo. NBC wanted the stench to go away. It did. Also, The Ropers were set up to fail imo. Norman Fell said so himself. Edward216 10-10-2019, 01:06 AM Newsradio after Phil Hartman was murdered and all the controversy surrounding it was certainly set up to fail imo. Well to be fair I think it would be really difficult for any sitcom to carry on after a cast member is murdered. I'm sure most of us wouldn't know how to deal with that either if we were in the same situation. Ed. RetroGuy2000 10-10-2019, 01:29 AM Kevin Can Wait reeked after that first season. It's like the writers didn't even try to write respectfully about a character they had callously killed off. |
