Greetings, Nest aficionados!
I'm Greg Miloro, and actually I've been a fan of the show for six years. Excuse me for pulling a Laverne here, but this just prompts me to go into a story about how I got into the show (it's about Empty Nest, not Hickory).
Being born in 1983, I was at a major disadvantage. I didn't know much about shows like this, nor did I like them until my teenage years, by which time Empty Nest was still shown in reruns, so every morning when I got up for high school I could see an episode of it. It was at 6:30 A.M. on Fox here (Glen Burnie, Maryland). I think my favorite line from an episode I remember seeing there was in "Roots" where Charley starts to pour the wine for Baroness Daphne Weston and he sings, "I'm gonna score in England..." After this, I don't know what happened, I just kind of forgot about the show with everything I had going. I have never forgiven myself for forgetting about it. Then, one summer early morning in 2000 (3:35 or so), I couldn't sleep, so I turned on the TV. It just happened to be on Fox, and Nest popped onto the screen! I realized this was the show I'd grown so attached to four years before and its time slot had slid all the way back to 3:30 A.M.! Since then, I taped as many episodes as I could.
Whoop-de-doo, it was only 23.
In the twilight hours of September 5, 2000, I realized that Fox had so tragically RIPPED Empty Nest right off its lineup, and slipped Coach in its place. I've never forgiven Fox for this--they were already showing Coach in another time slot for crying out loud! That was the last station in my area showing Nest, and for nearly two years it's been gone. At the time, I thought there was no chance whatsoever of getting it back after Richard Mulligan passed on at the end of that very month. I've learned there are tapes with the lost episodes floating around, and I love the people who have these tapes for sending several to me, but nothing could top the feeling of seeing the show coming back into syndication. I thought if I waited a few more years, it would jump on the Nick At Nite ladder, but I just don't think I want to wait that long.
Anyway, I'd just like to thank all of you who support the show and await its return as eagerly as I do. I think this Message Board is a fabulous idea. I've already E-mailed the stations Hallmark, WGN, TBS, Lifetime, TNN...I tried to find an E-mail address for ABC Family, but it doesn't appear to have one. Well, that's my basic intro.
If anyone has the GUTS and the TIME to read all of this, I extend a hearty thanks, and thank you all anyhow for allowing me to share my feelings. The show was (still is) the first of eight TV sitcoms I've adopted as my official favorite shows, and I really, REALLY hope we get it back soon. --Greg
