The new offshoot, which was teased at TCA by The CW boss Mark Pedowitz, will center around Mia Smoak, known as Green Arrow, and the Canaries Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake.

"Arrow" Spin-off Scoop: A [Spoiler] Reunites Mia, Laurel and Dinah in 2040
by Vlada Gelman
January 2, 2020

Mia Smoak’s life post-“Crisis on Infinite Earths” is finally starting to take shape, with an official synopsis for the "Arrow" spin-off backdoor pilot starring Katherine McNamara’s archer, as well as Katie Cassidy’s Laurel and Juliana Harkavy’s Dinah.

In "Arrow‘s" Jan. 21 episode (8/7c), titled “Green Arrow & The Canaries,” “it’s the year 2040 in Star City and Mia Queen has everything she could have ever wanted,” according to The CW’s official description. (Hmm, I guess “Crisis” isn’t all bad news.)

“However, when Laurel and Dinah suddenly show up in her life again, things take a shocking turn and her perfect world is upended.”

The canaries “are tracking a kidnapping victim with direct ties to Mia and they need her help,” the logline continues. “Knowing it will change everything, Mia can’t help but be a hero, and she, Laurel and Dinah suit up once again to save the city.”

(Charlie Barnett, who plays JJ/Deathstroke in Star City 2040, also confirmed to TVLine that he appears in the backdoor pilot.)

"Arrow" Spin-off Status: Katie Cassidy is Feeling "Confident" about Pick-Up
by Matt Webb Mitovich
April 21, 2020

"Arrow" vet Katie Cassidy, who would headline the spin-off with Juliana Harkavy and Katherine McNamara, tells TVLine, “I don’t know, honestly,” where things stand with the prospective offshoot.

But she is bullish on its future.

“I’m a very positive person, so I feel confident that we’ll go to series,” Cassidy shared with TVLine as part of an in-depth interview pegged to Arrow: The Eighth and Final Season, available on Blu-ray and DVD April 28.

“If there was ever a time for a three-hander, all-female badass show, now is the time!” she observed with a laugh. “So I’m not worried. I’m feeling pretty good about it.”

"Arrow" Spin-off, "The 100" Prequel Still Under Consideration at The CW
by Matt Webb Mitovich
May 14, 2020

"Green Arrow and the Canaries" will have to cool their collective, butt-kicking heels a little while longer.

As revealed by The CW’s fall and midseason schedules for the 2020-21 TV season, neither the "Arrow" spin-off nor "The 100‘s" untitled prequel have been been ordered to series. Yet.

But both pilots are “very much alive” and remain under consideration, CW boss Mark Pedowitz said in a Thursday press conference.

When we brought up "Green Arrow and the Canaries" to Katherine McNamara during a talk about CBS All Access’ "The Stand", she said:

“I have no idea what’s on the horizon for that, but I do know that I’m not done with Mia Smoak. As you know with that universe, people are brought back left, right and center. I would love to go back and play in that world.

I was really looking forward to seeing how Mia dealt with having this duality as a character — the fact that she had her post-Crisis future and her pre-Crisis future, and now she has the tools of both at her disposal. But also dealing with taking up her father’s mantle before she feels she’s ready, and before she feels as though she’s earned it. That would be an interesting journey.”

I have to ask: What have you heard about the potential "Green Arrow and the Canaries" spin-off status?

I haven’t heard anything about it in quite a while. I was always sort of a little bit out of the loop because I was not contractually attached to it the way that Katie [Cassidy] and Juliana [Harkavy] and Kat [McNamara] were, so I don’t really know. That’s another group that had such great chemistry, and I would never say no to the opportunity to work with them again. But it’s been over a year now.

I don’t know. You would have to ask them about the status of it. But if it ever happens, I would be thrilled, because I love those women.

Your character was kidnapped last we saw, so we need a little resolution to that.

I know! It would be so sad if that was the last time that you ever saw William. I think he deserves a lot better, and I was constantly pushing, particularly in the last season and when we were talking about the spinoff, for him to have a love interest.

I would love to see that. I would love to see how William Clayton spent the holidays with his partner. [Laughs]

Well, the network hasn’t said for sure that they’ve passed on it, so there’s a sliver of hope.

Yeah, I don’t think anything is official. It feels like if there was forward momentum with it, then the pandemic, obviously, threw a wrench in that, as it has with numerous, countless things.

I loved playing that character.

The CW president passed on Arrow spinoff Green Arrow & The Canaries due to timing (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/how-the-cw-is-plotting-a-return-to-business-as-usual-during-a-pandemic)

"We couldn't quite figure out a model similar to Stargirl and couldn't quite get there," CW president Mark Pedowitz says in a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "We were hoping to have it start at HBO Max and take a second run on The CW, but we couldn't figure out how to do it and couldn't make it all work." As for The 100 prequel series, he says: "The 100 prequel is still in discussions at the studio level. I'd like to see it happen. I'm comfortable with where the prequel spinoff episode we did this past season. It's not a pilot; the earliest that would happen would be probably summer 2022, if that happens. We may end up deciding that we can't put the pieces together and it won't happen."
