From what I heard, shooting stars aren't stars...but meteorites.

I was also skeptic on "if you make a wish as you see a shooting star, your wish may come true".

I did that...twice! I saw two meteors.

Seeing a shooting star is traditionally believed to bring good luck, so seeing two should be doubly so! :)

I see shooting stars at least twice minimum when we go to the drive-in movie theater (there's only one left within 100 miles of me). I've must of seen 150 ss at least in just the last 15 years alone. Usually more entertaining than the actual movies, unfortunately.

Shooting stars are meteors. They are rocks from outer space that happen to cross the pass of the Earth and burn up in the atmosphere. That's the flash you see. If some of the meteor makes it through the atmosphere and falls to the ground, the remnant is called a meteorite. Of course, meteors can be very large and hit the Earth with catastrophic consequences. They are blamed for mass extinctions, including the dinosaurs.

I see those at times.

True, "shooting stars" is very inaccurate. Stars don't "shoot." Meteors is the correct word to use. And meteorite if it falls to the Earth.

Then I must've saw a meteor shower...I think I know why that's a sign of good luck...it's a rare scenario...like finding a four-leaf clover...and I found one once...but it didn't give me any luck!
