American Horror Story: 1984 brings back a serial killer from AHS past (https://ew.com/tv/2019/09/19/american-horror-story-1984-premiere-night-stalker-richard-ramirez)
Zach Villa takes over the role of a serial killer who appeared in a previous season. And according to IMDb, Villa will appear in all 10 episodes this season.
The first episode was like watching a horror movie from the late 70's. I kind of like it. And Zach Villa does have a striking resemblance to Richard Ramirez. And poor Matthew Morrison looks like one of those 1970's porn stars.

American Horror Story: 1984 seems like the first time the FX franchise is engaging in nostalgia for nostalgia's sake (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/american-horror-story-1984-review-1241047)
"The launch was an hour-ish of the writers and frequent director Bradley Buecker saying, 'You like GLOW? You like Stranger Things? You like the '80s? Remember those summer camp killer movies? Reference! Reference! Reference!'" says Daniel Fienberg. He adds: "Forgive me for having expected more from this potentially fertile intersection of camp and campiness. The season's plot is intentionally thin."

American Horror Story: 1984 is trying very hard to not to be American Horror Story (https://www.polygon.com/tv/2019/9/19/20873936/american-horror-story-1984-recap-ahs-connections-night-stalker-cast): "After the lore-heavy Apocalypse, 1984 is a deep breath, a step away from the tangled web of mythology that creator Ryan Murphy accidentally spun," says Petrana Radulovic. "With the absence of mainstay series regulars, particularly Evan Peters, who said in April he was 'sitting this one out,' AHS is using 1984 as an excuse to reinvent itself in a way it hasn’t in ages."
