Today my Monday Sons episode was 2.17 "2nd Time Around" watching, as is my custom now, the TV Land orig. music version first then watched the commercial version. In this episode Bub sings "Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ral" I thought, uh oh, the commercial DVD is going to cut this song out. But I was very pleasantly surprised to see the song left intact on the comm. version. As Gomer would say, Surprise Surprise Surprise!
I couldn't even tell really if any of the music was changed, the original version did not feature any typical background music one could recognize and the comm. version's music was likewise unmemorable. I didn't bother to listen again to the orig. and then again the comm. version to see if the music was the same or not, guess 2 viewings of the same ep. is enough. But if it was different it sounded as good as the orig. I did see in the credits all music was done by Frank Devol, so maybe when it's Devol's background music the commercial version leaves it alone. Even the typical "Popcorn" song I've referenced before which is used a lot in the 2nd season wasn't in this episode, as this wasn't a Devol song.
By the by, this episode was extremely pleasing and a joy to watch. Guess I just like the ep.s when Bub is the main feature. He was hilarious with his cronies when they made fun of his new hair, he closed the door on them slowly, making it funnier. He wore his toupee to attract Patricia Barry, he yelled at the kids real loud and with energy and the kids, esp. Mike, all had a hard time not laughing whenever Bub was speaking or yelling. Mike really must have got a kick out of Bub in real life, you can see by his face his appreciation of Frawley and his personality. Bub had a lot of energy in this show.
Patricia Barry was also Bub's girlfriend in real life, I wonder if Bub met her via the show, probably. But the story goes when Bub died he left his fortune to Patricia. This gal knew where her bread was best buttered.;)
