View Full Version : I can't find a job anywhere!
MrCleveland 09-16-2019, 07:13 PM I've been looking for a new job in about a month...but it's easier said than done!
My former boss got fired last week where I work at...and my "pastor" may want me out next.
I need a job now...but no one wants to hire me...looks like I might as well have to go to college and/or move-out of Cleveland or even be forced to move-back home.
This just hasn't been my decade!
Steve_uk 09-16-2019, 09:11 PM I would stay where you are if you possibly can. I've just read about the GM auto workers strike. It's all very well acclaiming the economy but many of these jobs as in the UK have little security attached and people are hired and dismissed through agencies.

That is the problem with Cleveland...they depend on the auto and steel industry...we're NOT called "The Rust Belt" for nothing!
I might as well go back to school and live with my dad...FML!
Hawkee 09-17-2019, 02:50 AM During the holidays you may notice that some stores are hiring workers and you could easily get in real simple. For example Target is always looking for clerks and stockpersons and order takers for their restaurant and it's very simple to apply for a job at Target so why don't you give your Target a call and ask if they are currently looking for people to work there. A second place you can try is a motel or hotel and addition to desk clerks and managers and maids hotels and motels always need gardeners electricians or chefs and waiters to work in the hotel restaurants or work in the breakfast area. Just call the hotels and motels in your area and ask if they are hiring anyone and find out what the requirements of the job you want to know about will be and if you like the job you can call the hotel or motel and schedule an interview and who knows you can do it. Good luck in your job search Mr. Cleveland I know you can do it and always remember to have faith and chase your dreams

KurtfromPitts 09-18-2019, 10:53 AM I've been having the same problem for a long time myself.
MrCleveland 10-02-2019, 08:04 PM For me to get a better job...I'll HAVE to go and get a Bachelor's Degree!
I can't find a job still...it's like I have to have looking for a job BE a job!
I need something like now because...I was overdrawn at my bank account with Planet Fitness...maybe I should just cancel that plan, Hulu, Netflix, and even YouTube!
I can't afford these things right now...and if I tell my old man I'm having buck troubles...this is what he'll tell me..."move back home"!
I might as well...**** 2019 and the 2010's!
MrCleveland 10-02-2019, 10:53 PM Well...
I already cancelled Planet Fitness and YouTube Premium as well as FYE...I'm at the end of my rope and God isn't gonna help me...might as well see a gypsy to show my fate!

Work for Uber or Lyft.

Don't give up your gym or you will go round the bend. Ask a member of the congregation to check your resume and send it out to as many employers as you can.
MrCleveland 10-03-2019, 06:50 PM Work for Uber or Lyft.
I don't have a car...I'm just gonna have to face it...there's NO job for me...If I can't find anything by the end of this month...I'm just gonna tell my dad that I'll move-back home.
His prayer will be answered...and mine never will!
MrCleveland 10-25-2019, 04:02 PM My Old Man keeps pressuring me to find another job...I got two interviews already and they both decided to have another employee...
There's no job for me, I'm just about to give up...if the people at Tri-C can't find me anything by the end of this year...then I might as well go back to Tri-C!
Dude, as a guy with steady employment and a decent income, I have to say it’s overrated. I wish I had more free time. If you’re unemployed, enjoy the free time. You’re going to find money is a poor trade off for all the time you’re giving away to someone else. There’s no use in having money if you don’t have the time to spend it.
We’re only here for a short time; do you really want to spend it working?

Better working than living in a cardboard box.

...that or living with my dad.
I love him, but he needs to have control...he even told me that "If you move here, it's not like I'm gonna clip your wings". And the first day I'm there...I can't go anywhere!ohno:ohno:ohno:ohno:ohno:
I may have to end my internet if I can't find anything, I'll probably use other computers.

What do you mean you can’t go anywhere? I have to admit I wish I could stay at home all day. I don’t like getting out. I don’t like the constant contact with people at my work. My job leaves me too tired to want to have a life outside of work.
But I’m making money, and getting out of the house. Just so you know, those two things aren’t the key to happiness. If they were I’d be on cloud nine now.
But I have to say at the past seven years at my job, it hasn’t been worth it.
Better than living in a cardboard box I guess, like Waawie said. But some jobs are going to keep you in the office so long you’re not going to need to spend money on a place of your own. You may as well grab a cot and sleep at work. Do you want to be that busy?

My old man would be talking all day and nothing would be done! The only time I would wind-up doing something is if he's asleep. All he wants to do is talk and bitch about anything and everything! I would also have to wait on him hand-and-foot since he can't really do anything...I'd be trying to make my dad happy if I moved-back home...but he says "WE NEED YOUR HELP"!
It's one thing that I'm at his house 3-4 times a week, but then he'll take advantage of me saying "you're better off living with me than living with yourself"!
So...I'll have to see my old man die if he gets his way!

Your Dad is lonely and needs you. Maybe you can set him up with E-Harmony? Maybe he can get a new girlfriend?

How old is your Dad? If he is a senior citizen and if he has any disabilities and low income, he might qualify for what they call out here in California IHSS (In home supportive service) ! I think every state has this program but it might be called something else in other states!
Anyway if he qualifies you could get PAID to live with your Dad! You could sign up to be his caregiver ! ;)Or depending on how many hours he gets per month you might still be able to live alone, keep you place and make your rent and all, just you would have to go over there to your Dad's about 5 days a week, a few hours a day ! ;)
I work for IHSS and so does my Son! We don't live with the people we work for. It pays a little above minimum, not the best job , but not the worst either;).This is state/county run and they pay you! You don't need any medical training , it is more companionship, housekeeping, light cooking, errand running, accompanying them to medical appointments etc. OF course some people do have clients that are very disabled and have to give more hands on and medical care, they get more hours of course and make more money!;)
Anyway if Ohio has this program, look into it. Even if you don't become a caregiver for your Father you could get another person to care for, it can be somebody you know or there is a registry and they can match you up with someone! Also you can work for as many people as you like if you need more money! ;)
This could really be something you might be interested in! My Son and I are the type of people who really weren't cut out for the working world per se, and we make a living doing this job! :)

I might check that out...my father will be 63 in January, he is retired by force (he can't work right now), and I'd like to know about the scenario in Ohio...I'll ask my counselor, he may have to see a doctor...even if he's kicking and screaming...and his screams will be like a scene in a Scorsese film (a lot of F-Bombs)!

Yeah!! I hope Ohio has a program like this and you can get into it!;) I think this would be something good for you to pursue ! Even if you don't work for your Father you can work for someones else. Any older, disabled (physically or mentally) low income person , another relative, friend, neighbor or as I said before you can go on a registry and they will assign a person for you! ;)
IDK how it works in other states? , I'm thinking probably the same ! Here in California you have to pass a background/criminal/ fingerprint check and go to a seminar/training type thing (it is only one day, a few hours) that explains it all to you! That is it!! Than you can go to work as a caregiver !!! ;)

MrCleveland 10-29-2019, 10:42 PM I'm working at a Christmas Tree warehouse for about two months. I put-in 12 hours today...this will be the hectic week.

Congratulations! I am job searching as well. I am beyond burned out on my job and I have this sinking feeling that I'm going to be let go soon. Long story, really. I'm trying to find something closer to home so that I don't have to commute into downtown anymore. I've done it for 18 years but it's getting old.
Congratulations on the new job!
MrCleveland 11-28-2019, 09:58 AM The job I have was temporary...but I made some good money...I'll also be working for The Salvation Army and I may get a job at Kohl's...I hope it's concrete.
IllinoisTVFan 11-28-2019, 11:42 PM Mr Cleveland congrats on the job! Mr Cleveland, and Schmoopie, feel you both on the job thing.I've been looking and finally found a job. However, the job has a lot of questions and I am still searching because I have a bad feeling about it. I've gone on so many interviews where I wanted the job, had the skills, thought I would get it, only not to make it to the second interview. Meanwhile this job interview gives me bad vibes, they are being sneaky about things like actual job responsibilities and benefits (it's a drug counselor job but many of the duties are really administrative and aren't telling me about benefits, plus I had to fill out forms about prison and hope it's not counseling inmates). I've been volunteering with my professor in the online teaching certification program I am almost finished with (next week!) and am hoping that helps me into something I want, instead of just taking anything.
MrCleveland 01-07-2020, 06:01 PM Sure the decade may be new...but the problems I have remain...
My last two jobs were only seasonal...so I'm underemployed...again!
If I can't find anything before Easter...I'll have no other option but to go back to College...that also means...I'll HAVE To Move-Back Home! That also means...I'll HAVE to face my father...if he makes it through this winter...and the way he is...he's probably gonna survive.
He might also force me to move-back home!
Schmoopie 01-08-2020, 05:23 AM I interviewed for a job on December 10th that pays a lot less than my current job but it's only four miles from my house so I think it will even out. I was supposed to hear something by the end of the week but never did and when I contacted the recruiter she told me that they liked my interview and are going to offer me a job but they have to wait for a start date. So here I am waiting and waiting. I just sent her another email asking if she knows of an approximate date. I have a bad feeling that I'm about to or have already lost my current job so it would be nice to know that another one is waiting for me. Obviously I'd rather quit than be fired but I don't know how that's going to work out. We'll find out when I go back to work on Thursday.

You can always move to Austin, TX like everyone else in Ohio already has.

I interviewed a lot during the holidays and am now hearing back. Jobs can be so annoying. Upthread I mentioned I was offered a questionable job. I got leery when I received an email telling me how to dress for an interview. They were almost urging me to answer the questions a certain way, and a week later received a job offer. I had to jump through hoops, including taking a drug test, submitting references (both business, personal AND people who can verify my employment). Then they did ANOTHER background check and then on top of it yet another background check. I had my references telling me they were asking so many questions about me that seemed off. All of this passed me through but then I received an email stating they were rescinded the offer because almost 30 years ago I was arrested for an incident that wasn't convicted Basically, I got into an argument with a friend's boyfriend and we had to go to court. The judge told us to avoid each other for 6 months and nothing would be on record. I didn't pay a fine or have probation or do community service. This has never showed up on my criminal record at all yet somehow it did this time. I was questioning the job anyway.
I had a good interview today though with another company and they want to set up a second interview.
