View Full Version : Name a sitcom NOT set in America
I'm watching Café Americain right now and started thinking about sitcoms not set in the USA. Successful or short lived, famous or obscure, doesn't matter.
I'm thinking mainly American made and produced shows, but any sitcoms are welcome as answers.
I'll start with those two ME-TV staples, MASH and Hogan's Heroes.
Bonniegirl 09-16-2019, 03:11 PM I'm not sure I see the point of this thread. Sorry if that sounds blunt. https://www.sitcomsonline.com/britcoms.html
Opus means shows that are made in America , American sitcoms that are supposed to take place somewhere other than the USA ! ;)
Bonniegirl 09-16-2019, 03:13 PM Not a whole series, but on One day at a time, the "Last time I saw Paris" ep. !
Bonniegirl 09-16-2019, 03:22 PM I just thought of two! McHales navy and Gilligan's Island!;)
Corner Gas
King Of Kensington
Trailer Park Boys
Being Erica

I'll go tweak my question a little

I was gonna say Gilligan as well. I guess since it was an uncharted island it was kind of its own independent little country!

It’s About Time (prior to them returning to the present day)
Operation Petticoat
Dinosaurs - Set in Pangaea (long before the USA)
The Flintstones fit this concept too
TV Guy 09-17-2019, 02:36 PM Good call on The Flintstones. Did The Jetsons ever say anything about being set in the US? Or is it possible it was set in some post-apocalyptic future after the fall of the US?

That's still America, though. Not the continental U.S., but it is America.

Duster76 09-18-2019, 09:07 PM I don't think any of these were mentioned:
The Gale Storm Show: set aboard a ship that cruises the world.
Outsourced: A call center for American novelties products located in
Here's a bonus which kind of fits, Fair Exchange (Judy Carne's first show), two best friends, one British the other American give their daughter's the opportunity to become exchange students, the American moving into the British friend household and the British girl into the American household. It was an hour long comedy series, I believe the original series format split the hour into two pieces, one half to the British family and the other to the Americans. The series struggled and was eventually reduced to a half hour before cancellation

I think maybe Tubehead read it wrong and thought the thread meant shows set in rural America or in a country setting? ;)
RetroGuy2000 09-19-2019, 12:24 AM Not sitcoms, but still worth mentioning:
Doctor Who - set in many past/future locations, many of which resemble British quarries.
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys - set in ancient Greece
SitcomsHeydayfan 09-21-2019, 02:10 AM What about the Love Boat?
Sure they picked up passengers in America but didn't they sail all over the world? Or at least internationally?
