Were the Camdens were weirdly inconsistent? They make a big deal over marijuana (as if it's a threat much more dangerous than guns and equal in deadliness to heroin), premarital sex and not going to college. Yet, they let Matt grow his hair long and smoke cigarettes, let Simon have ear piercings and let Mary, Lucy and Ruthie date around or get married too early.
