View Full Version : I wonder if Pete the deli owner was supposed to be a recurring character?

Watched “Store Games” this morning, and the ending seemed like they were setting up an ongoing rivalry between the two stores. But I don’t think we ever saw him again. Probably just as well. William Windom was a good actor, but his southern accent was kind of ridiculous (what was he doing in Peekskill?).

This episode does show off Charlotte’s amazing rubber face and talent for taking the most mundane line and making it funny. When Pete tells her they can settle their dispute without the police, she scrunches her face up and says, “I reckoned you would” in a southern accent. And later says, “Who’s got who over the cracker barrel...now?” She pronounces “now” in a funny way and makes the whole thing funny. Talented lady.

I dunno. I can see what you mean, but I felt that's just how they wrote the ending. They seemed to do that sometimes. Like with the latchkey kid Danny, I think Tootie welcomed him to come to Edna's Edibles after school instead of going home to be alone (maybe even offering this to his mother; I'd have to check the episode to see), and we never saw him again either.

As for his down-home accent and dress and demeanor, he could be a transplant from the south, or he could be from a "hick part" of or near Peekskill. But I'm glad we didn't see Pete again, since he was such a jerk. I much prefer WW as Mama's old flame Woody in his 1 episode of "Mama's Family".

And yes, there are disagreements around here, but we all adore Charlotte!

We do indeed adore Charlotte. Sure miss her. Still can't believe she's gone.
