He didn't want to do it! He really didn't! But after the third season of Three's Company, Norman Fell and Audra Lindley left their hit TV series. Watch this video to learn more about their decision and what happened next!

The Ropers were funny on TC, but their own show was so bad, it's almost as if it was sabotaged on purpose.

All correct, in the mid 1990's I produced a television comedy talk show for satellite and staged a mini reunion with Norman & Richard Kline appearing together!
I recently transferred the episode to dvd where Norman describes exactly the producers approached him for a spin-off, he absolutely was not interested in leaving the smash "Three's Company", he was convinced to take the series only if they guaranteed "The Ropers" two seasons, so according to Norman directly after two episodes in "Season two" "The Ropers" were cancelled.
He then asked to return to "Threes" and was told absolutely no as to the "two season deal" and that Don Knotts was already in place.
I did not listen to the interview that started this thread, but my video has Norman telling the above version verbatim.
btw both Norman and Larry were the nicest guys, clowned around alot with pure joy. When asked to Norman "What are you doing now?" He replied with a wink "Parades"!

NO WAY!
It was hilarious because the chemistry and tension between Brooks and Roper was fantastic! It's definitely better than any comedy on today that's for sure.
Fell and Lindley got screwed over because they changed the time slot of the Ropers. If they left it right after Three's Company it would've lasted 3 to 5 seasons!

I absolutely agree with you that the time slot change hurt the show, that's part of what I'm talking about - the show seemed legit sabotaged. But whether it was or wasn't, it just wasn't a good show overall.

Yeah they screwed Norman over. You don't hear a lot of good things about the producers of Three's company.

I think the most serious episode they had was jack fired because he would make out with his boss

The Ropers was better than almost ALL the sitcoms on today. Today's sitcoms are practically unwatchable! Totally different feel & writing style back in the heyday of sitcoms compared to the GARBAGE on today!
