View Full Version : Episode Game: Same Title, Different Plot
'80sSitcoms 08-16-2019, 12:54 PM There are lots of "Facts" episodes where we can make different plots from the episode titles. For instance:
-
-
-
"Rough Housing"
------------------
Mrs. Garrett arrives at Eastland School for Girls to help build a new dorm. But with Tootie gossiping, Natalie joking, Molly singing, Cindy flipping, Nancy phoning, Sue Ann whittling, Blair mirroring, and Chestnut chewing on the tools, it's a "rough" job building this new "housing"!
"Molly's Holly Day"*
---------------------
Molly decides Arbor Day is too general. She thinks every tree should get its own holiday! One night she takes over the track field by transplanting hundreds of holly trees and planting them there. For Holly Day she makes wreaths of holly for her friends to wear as vegetative crowns on their heads, and she composes 50 new folk songs all about holly that she croons and warbles to her friends and Mrs. Garrett on her out-of-tune guitar. Oh, what a jolly Holly Day!
*(taking liberty with poetic license on almost the same title)
The Sound of Silence
-----------------------
24 minutes of the empty Eastland cafeteria.

"Best Sister"
---------------
When Jo's dad and Blair's mom get married, Blair and Jo realize they're now suddenly siblings. Can these girls put aside their differences long enough to become sisters?
"Growing Pains"
---------------------
A crossover episode occurs when the Seaver family of Long Island visits, in anticipation of Carol (Tracey Gold) attending Eastland.
"The Four Musketeers"
--------------------------
Four old friends visit the girls on the night Mrs. Garrett announces their probationary period has ended. Molly Ringwald, Felice Schachter, Julie Piekarski, and Julie Anne Haddock guest star.

FINALLY, a "Best Sister" I don't have to skip! Thanks!
Oh, and the most poignant part of "Molly's Holly Day"? After the holly trees decide they're unhappy in the track field, and they uproot themselves and go back to the woods outside of town.
"Hollieeeees can't be trusteeeeeed,
My heart feels like it's busteeeeeed,
Boy, am I disgusteeeeeed,
I got a right to sing the bluuuuuuues" :guitar:

'80sSitcoms 08-17-2019, 12:21 AM "The Return of Mr. Garrett"
---------------------------------
It's a snowy, blustery day at the snowed-in Eastland School for Girls, and the electricity and heat are both on the fritz. Everyone camps out downstairs surrounded by candles for a glowing snowstorm-watching slumber party by the fireplace. After bringing in hot cocoa for all her girls, Mrs. Garrett in her robe takes a seat in the plush chair by the fire and regales her girls with the grand tale of the time her ex-husband purchased a shirt he decided he didn't like----so he returned it.

'80sSitcoms 08-19-2019, 12:01 AM "Overachieving"
-------------------
Spurred on by Blair's barbs at how people from Kansas City must not amount to much, Sue Ann gets fired up to prove she can be the best of the best. She cuts all ties to social activities at Eastland and focuses entirely on her academics, drowning herself in studying and tests and grades. Her friends in the dorm and Mrs. Garrett and Miss Mahoney all worry about her, while Mr. Bradley thinks she's setting a good example for the reputation of Eastland and its academics. It's up to Garrett, Mahoney, and the girls snap Sue Ann out of it and remind her that a balanced life at school is the best life at school.

'80sSitcoms 08-28-2019, 11:55 AM "Emily Dickinson"
----------------------
A new student arrives at Eastland, and her name is Emily Dickinson. Blair razzes the shy, sensitive newcomer for having the same name as the old-fashioned, out-of-date, hopelessly fashioned-flawed poet, until she finds out what Emily has been working to hide --- she can't read. Ashamed for the way she's treated her, Blair takes it upon herself to spend time with Emily and teach her how to read in private sessions up in Blair's room, so no one will be the wiser. Mrs. Garrett finds out what's going on and tells Blair how proud she is of her, saying she has the true Eastland spirit.

"Let's Party"
------------------------
The girls are invited to Dorm B to hang out with their former roommates, Cindy and Sue Ann. But their old friends have become a bit rebellious since leaving Mrs. Garrett's care, and all the girls learn a frightening lesson about drinking and driving instead.

Impressions 09-07-2019, 11:19 PM Ooh this is fun. Kind of like short form fan fiction. I got a good one.
Take My Finals, Please
Natalie does some investigative journalism and finds out that Blair Warner did not get in to Eastland on her own merit. She finds out that her family bribed an admissions consultant so that she could be admitted into Eastland with fraudulent admission scores. To sweeten the deal, attached to her application are even fake photos of her competing against Sue Ann and Cindy on a competitive track team. In another, Blair is shown winning a trophy against the two. Natalie tells Tootie and naturally, she gets nosy. She finds Blair in a library and overhears that a test “proctor” has been helping feed Blair answers for all of her college tests and exams. Not only that, but we find out that the Eastland library, which Blair’s family helped fund, was actually hush money to keep the cheating covered up. Tootie tattles to Jo and Mrs. Garrett about it. Jo isn’t too surprised but angered by the news. Mrs. Garrett is dumbfounded. Jo campaigns for Blair to get expelled while Mrs. Garrett tries to seek the truth and questions Blair and Mr. Bradley about it. Will Blair stay at Eastland, get expelled, or was this all a cruel April Fool’s Joke that Blair played on the girls and Mrs. Garrett to mess with them?

Special "To Be Continued" Two-Parter
A nor'easter is headed for Peekskill, and Nancy and Molly go with Mr. Bradley to stock up on supplies in town. While they're away, the winter storm hits sooner than expected, trapping Mrs. Garrett and the other six girls in the cafeteria building along with a stranded Miss Mahoney.
During the long delay it takes in Mr. Bradley, Nancy, and Molly trying to make it back to Eastland, Mrs. Garrett finds that the only food left in the kitchen is a foursome of Three Musketeers candy bars. Mrs. Garrett takes the four Musketeers and gives one each to friend pairings of Jo and Blair, and Sue Ann and Cindy, and Natalie and Tootie, reserving the last for herself and Miss Mahoney.
While the six girls and the two women separate to divide the four Musketeers bars in half and share half a bar each, they bond in that personal way that people do in such trying circumstances. Mrs. Garrett and Miss Mahoney stay in the kitchen, talking about their lives and where their paths got them to this point in their own careers at Eastland. Feeling warmth over their bonding as professional women and their appreciating the other's different background, Mrs. Garrett then gets a call from Mr. Bradley that he, Nancy, and Molly have gotten stuck out in the storm and the help sent to rescue them hasn't been able to get through. She hangs up with grave concern and tells Miss Mahoney of the trio's dire circumstances. Miss Mahoney says if they can't make it back, despite them having shelter and warmth, the girls and themselves will be in just as dire need as there is no more food left to eat.
PART 2
The six girls gather in the cafeteria reminiscing about their friendships at Eastland over the years, and then they split up in pairs to talk and eat their rations: Jo and Blair retreating to their room, Natalie and Tootie staying in the cafeteria, and Sue Ann and Cindy going into the lounge on the couch. Once alone in pairs, the girls then split their Musketeers and enjoy their half with their best friend (or "best frienemy" in Jo and Blair's case) while talking about their good and bad times as dynamic duos, seeing how deep and meaningful their best friendships have become to them (many classic clips flashed back in these scenes).
Eventually, just as Mrs. Garrett and Miss Mahoney are fraught and discussing how best to break it to the girls that there is no more food for any of them and no safe way out of the building, Mr. Bradley, Nancy, and Molly make it safely back to Eastland with enough supplies and food to last until the snow can be cleared. Mr. Bradley says it feels so odd to have only 11 people at the entire school, whereupon Mrs. Garrett says at least their gang is together again, as audience applause erupts while all help out with putting away the supplies and food amidst smiles and laughter and affectionate teases/hugs as the first end credits flash on the screen.

valentina warner 02-03-2021, 07:22 PM The Four Musketeers

Is it Tootie and her TV impressions? Is it Blair painting Sue Ann while Sue Ann runs around in circles? Is it Jo demonstrating how to drain a crank case?

I wouldn't say I "hate" Alex(andra). I dislike her, but I don't hate her. And even anti-Alex me admits that she provides the set-up for a good joke in "Graduation". So I can get myself to utilize her for a specific plot point, such as messing up Miss Downs' index cards.
