Rainmaker 08-12-2019, 12:40 PM The Flintstones being my favorite cartoon this news excites me.
Too2muchtv 08-12-2019, 12:42 PM Nice addition to the schedule, but I wonder what will happen to Mama's Family. Am anxious to know about any other changes to MeTV's fall schedule.
LUNCH 08-12-2019, 12:50 PM Great.I have always loved The Flintstones, and it has been off the air for way too long with maybe the exception of some obscure channel that many do not have access to.
Merry24 08-12-2019, 12:50 PM YABBA DABBA DOO!!
eng51squad51 08-12-2019, 12:55 PM Nice addition to the schedule, but I wonder what will happen to Mama's Family. Am anxious to know about any other changes to MeTV's fall schedule.
Don't know yet until Snow Pack post a Leak schedule.
BigManMike 08-12-2019, 01:09 PM This is nice although I wish it were on at a better time. I get off then and it takes me nearly an hour to get home. I also wonder what will happen to The Jeffersons.
Rainmaker 08-12-2019, 01:09 PM It also has a decent time slot for those who like to start the day with a cup of coffee and one of the best cartoons ever.
BigManMike 08-12-2019, 01:09 PM Maybe this is a sign more cartoons from that period will show up. I would love to see some more.
Rainmaker 08-12-2019, 01:14 PM Maybe the Jetsons.
MikeLutton 08-12-2019, 01:20 PM thundercats Transformers g1 Voltron He man

1960'sTVfan 08-12-2019, 02:04 PM That's cool if The Flintstones will be joining the MeTV lineup although it doesn't really affect me because I have the complete series DVD's and can watch those anytime.

You only have the 3rd season DVD? You should get the rest of the seasons too if you can but otherwise yep it will be great to watch when MeTV starts showing them.

I agree however I have noticed that when a show is on live TV, I pay closer attention and watch the entire episode.Sometimes when I know I have the full series on DVD, I find myself fast forwarding or just stop watching because I can. I have a different mindset watching live TV vs DVD's but maybe that's just me.
stevea 08-12-2019, 03:39 PM What a bold move! Bravo!!

I wonder what this will be replacing.
stevea 08-12-2019, 06:10 PM The current programs are Mama's Family and The Jeffersons. We just don't know if those will be off the schedule or moved.
Now that the Flintstones announcement has been made it'd be great to see the full schedule.
Mr. Television 08-12-2019, 06:12 PM YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. It's about Time it was back on tv.
superkeegan9100 08-12-2019, 06:25 PM YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. It's about Time it was back on tv.
It was last aired on Boomerang last year, actually....
stevea 08-12-2019, 06:27 PM Those of us on Comcast unfortunately don't get Boomerang. I'd rather have that than Teen-Titans-Go-Away Cartoon Network.

Oh really? Have you've seen Boomerang's latest schedule? It's pure, unadulterated CRAP.

Don't get Boomerang on Comcast.
stevea 08-12-2019, 07:11 PM Since I don't get it I don't look at their schedule. Sounds as worthless as CN now.
Maybe if the Flintstones works for MeTV they'll bring back the Jetsons, Top Cat, and Jonny Quest.

The Jetsons would be a great addition to the schedule, if paired with the Flintstones in a two hour block. Top Cat I wouldn't mind seeing though I have the complete series already.
Bonniegirl 08-12-2019, 09:53 PM I love Fred's Mother in law and Mr. Slate ! I can't wait to see them!! :)

superkeegan9100 08-12-2019, 10:05 PM I wonder how long this is gonna last...I mean, I know this was one of the first animated sitcoms, but then again it's still an animated show, and The Flintstones is more recognizable for kids nowadays...
Bonniegirl 08-12-2019, 10:38 PM Barney Rubble is Mr. Slate's nephew ? I never knew that!!

What a BOLD MOVE not placing them in a early morning slot!
Some of the classic WNEW-TV Promo Slogans of the era! With voice over announcer Lou Steele sitting in the booth all day doing live coming up next announcements with a few cocktails!

Hawkee 08-13-2019, 12:35 AM I did hear about this when I was waiting for Charlie's Angels on METV and I think the president of METV must've read my thread about how METV should be improved and this is a REAL improvement because the only place you could see The Flintstones was on Boomerang and Cartoon Network in the early days when Cartoon Network was just starting out. I wonder if The Flintstones is successful METV will think very seriously about a classic cartoon hour in the future

I've always loved The Flintstones, though never got around to getting the complete-series DVD. I will one day, though this is nice news.
A note about having shows on DVD and watching on TV- I have "Mama's Family" and
"Wonder Woman," though still like watching the reruns on MeTV. :)
icecream 08-13-2019, 12:32 PM The blog today says Bedrock and Mayberry will now be neighbors, but unless M*A*S*H gets moved out of its seemingly permanent 7PM hour, M*A*S*H will still be separating The Flintstones and Andy Griffith. Or maybe they will move Andy to the 5PM hour.

First of all, the other shows I forgot were She-Ra and Mr. Magoo...secondly, the Sid and Marty Krofft shows weren't part of the AniMeTV block, but another block called "Sid and Marty Krofft and MeTV..." thirdly, since when did Tiny Toon Adventures air on Antenna TV?
Bonniegirl 08-13-2019, 03:05 PM Regarding Mr. Slate
Yeah , all three of his hairs!! :D That made me laugh when they said his hair Is black!! One time he did have hair though! He was still bald on top , but he had a ring of hair around the bottom of his head like the older or middle aged men used to have back in those days if they were balding! :DI think it was only on one ep and I'm not sure which, but I was always curious about why Mr.Slate was different this one time??:wave:

Yeah, Mr. Slate changed appearance during the run of the show, just like Mel Blanc changed Barney's voice. Mr. Slate might even have had a different name early on.
Does anyone know if, on the season 6 DVDs, they used any of the closing credits with Pebbles and Bamm Bamm singing their song? I remember those so vividly from the original showings.
Tubehead 08-14-2019, 08:53 PM I just got the complete series of t he The Flintstones, last christmas!! but does that mean that me tv might show more classic Anmited cartoons tv serise!! i hope they show liked the jetsons or wait until your father comes home!! does any one remmeber wait until your father comes home? which is better the Flintstones or the jetson's? i always enjoy the jetson's better!! or even better do classic retro cartoon channel!! i would watch it all day long!

Mama's family......God what an awful show.

How about this for a little stunt programming? They show a cartoon and it’s real life inspiration back to back. So The Honeymooners/ The Flintstones and The Phil Silvers Show/Top Cat. Any other possibilities?
stevea 08-15-2019, 10:48 PM Something with Wally Cox/Underdog

Tennessee Tuxedo was inspired by GET SMART? I never knew that!
TV Guy 08-16-2019, 11:10 AM Tennessee Tuxedo was inspired by GET SMART? I never knew that!
It wasn’t. Tennessee Tuxedo premiered two years before Get Smart. Don Adams is the main thing the shows have in common.
That said, I love the programming idea. You could also do a lot with the direct animated spinoffs (“Partridge Family 2200 AD”, “Emergency +4”, “Lassie’s Rescue Rangers, etc.).
stevea 08-16-2019, 04:42 PM Tennessee Tuxedo was inspired by GET SMART? I never knew that!
TV Guy's right. It was just that Tennessee Tuxedo was voiced by Don Adams.
Vintage1947 08-16-2019, 08:32 PM In my honest opinion there are no other animated sitcoms out there including The Simpsons that can rival The Flintstones. This addition to METV is a huge upgrade.

I agree. I liked the Simpsons for the first year or two but quickly tired of it. The Flintstones is timeless.

Same here!! If it wasn't for my Kids watching it, I was done with the Simpsons after about two seasons too! :p

IMO Spongebob Squarepants is the best newer cartoon!! ;):)
Vintage1947 08-17-2019, 03:24 PM I exposed my grandson to The Flintstones and he loves it. Now he does still watch Spongebob as well and that show is funny, but I am glad he can also get into the classics that his Nana did long ago.

How is it a huge upgrade? What's the big deal about MeTV adding "The Flinstones" to their lineup? To tell you the truth I am not impressed by this addition.
Like I said in another thread. It doesn't take much to entertain most of you people on here.

Wow, you are a big ray of sunshine !!:lol:
stevea 08-17-2019, 06:24 PM It would only be one episode, but there are three Looney Tunes with the Honeymooners played by cartoon mice. There"s also a Merrie Melodies where mice spoof The Jack Benny Program.
Yep, those mouse characters are called the Honeymousers.
The 1958 Merrie Melodies toon with the Jack Benny mouse is "The Mouse That Jack Built." There are also mouse characterizations of his wife, Mary Livingstone and his announcer, Don Wilson. Jack Benny (the human) awakens from what appeared to be a dream at the end. It's probably the only color film of Benny from that era (when I post a statement like that, I'm always corrected!)

mandyrenee 08-17-2019, 07:33 PM I could understand the excitement if it was something that hasn't been on Television in a long time like the Walter Lantz Cartoons such as Woody Woodpecker or Chilly Willy. That would be something to get excited about.
The Flinstones were recently on Boomerang. That's why I am not impressed. Plus I do not impress easily.
I think some of you would probably get excited over a TV channel that shows paint drying on a wall.

MikeLutton 08-18-2019, 05:49 PM imagine Honeymooners as cartoons meets the flintstones
stevea 08-18-2019, 06:02 PM It'll be interesting to see how the first 2 seasons look (opening/closing). Those are the seasons that were originally in black and white on ABC. So when they went into syndication, new TV prints in color had to be made. This is probably when they decided to use the newer opening/closing with season 1 and 2. IIRC the original opening went unused until restored by Turner for Boomerang or CN. Also I think the original closing credits for most episodes were lost and a generic version was created, right down to having to come up with a similar font. So those are probably the same for most or all S1 and S2 episodes.
If the credit negatives were lost or tossed, what they SHOULD have done was colorize the original episode credits from the B/W TV prints.
There are similar (but also slightly different) stories about the other H-B cartoons--The Jetsons, Top Cat, and until recently, Jonny Quest. For the Blu-Ray of JQ, they remastered using the TV prints, which for this show, were in color.
Vintage1947 08-18-2019, 07:38 PM I'm just here for the Yabba Dabba Doo Berry Pie.

Also I noticed starting this Monday they’re going back to the one hour episodes of Wagon Train at 3 pm with two episodes of The Rifleman from 2 to 3 pm.
Mr. Television 08-19-2019, 07:44 AM Me-TV's schedule for September 2nd shows "Barnaby Jones" replacing "77 Sunset Strip" in the 4am hour.

Yes. Somebody heard me. :woohoo:
stevea 08-19-2019, 08:12 AM Also it appears some of the weekday Summer of Me changes are over, effective today. The second Rifleman is back, and Wagon Train is back to an hour.

omg65 08-19-2019, 04:25 PM They're still on Boomerang?
When I looked last year, they were not on Boomerang any longer. That may have changed as I have not checked lately.
They're still on Boomerang?
Boomerang is on my cable system so I ran a search for The Flintstones. The only thing that came up is the live action movies on other networks, so no, The Flintstones is no longer there or on any network I currently receive.
1960'sTVfan 08-19-2019, 05:28 PM I wonder if MeTV will run The Flintstones episodes uncut or if the episodes will be edited. Would not be good if they run them edited.
stevea 08-19-2019, 07:08 PM I don't think MeTV runs anything uncut. Sad to say.
1960'sTVfan 08-19-2019, 08:41 PM I don't think MeTV runs anything uncut. Sad to say.
I agree MeTV will probably run edited versions of the episodes, but if they do run them uncut, I imagine they would likely time compress them so they can fit all their commercials in.
When MeTV started showing The Monkees episodes a few months ago, I first thought the episodes were uncut but upon closer investigation I discovered the episodes are edited.
I now receive the MeTV channel in widescreen format with the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Not good. When I watch TV, I want a fullscreen picture.
Gone are the early days/glory days of MeTV when they ran many programs uncut with no time compression and the picture was fullscreen.
stevea 08-19-2019, 09:01 PM They definitely do time-compress full-length episodes--I proved that out around a year ago when comparing with the same episodes taken from a different channel, when their identical scenes timed out shorter. Along with that they still edit out some content. They've improved their time-compression over a few years back; sometimes you could really tell it was sped up.
I read somewhere when time-compression is used, a pitch-correction program has to be used as well.
DadTheKing 08-20-2019, 02:38 PM I did hear about this when I was waiting for Charlie's Angels on METV and I think the president of METV must've read my thread about how METV should be improved and this is a REAL improvement because the only place you could see The Flintstones was on Boomerang and Cartoon Network in the early days when Cartoon Network was just starting out. I wonder if The Flintstones is successful METV will think very seriously about a classic cartoon hour in the future

Hi, Bestie! Yes, I am excited to see the Flintstones coming to METV! Doyou think they will bring the Jetsons too? I hope so.

omg65 08-20-2019, 02:51 PM Well it figures ! It was too good to be true. I just found out today that NBC channel 4 out of Columbus Ohio did not renew MeTV and it will be off the air here on 9/24 only to be replaced by Court TV. Just wonderful...... another useless channel. I watched ALOT of MeTV and it will be missed. I'm hoping one of the other channels adds MeTV to it's sub channels. This happened to Antenna TV several years ago here but it was added back on another sub after a year or 2.
stevea 08-20-2019, 03:12 PM Well that makes a lot of sense. Everyone knows Court TV is way higher-rated than MeTV (not)!
Maybe your cable system can pick it up. They have a national feed.

This happened to Antenna TV several years ago here but it was added back on another sub after a year or 2.Court TV never should have been revived. Or it at least could have remained a cable network like the original Court TV was. My ABC affiliate earlier this year added a bunch of sub channels. Me TV and Court TV were two of them. Unfortunately Comcast has not put Me TV on their Fort Wayne lineup yet, but lousy Court TV made it to channel 249. They also put Grit (another of the recent ABC sub channels) on 247, I would gladly trade both those channels for Me TV.
stevea 08-20-2019, 03:22 PM Comcast in Indianapolis has a lot of the junk sub-channels in the 240s and 250s. IMO the only good ones are MeTV and Antenna TV.
In Indy 248 is MeTV and 253 is Antenna TV.

Thanks but I cut the cable cord about a year and a half ago, bought Roku's and replaced it with Youtube TV.I was using indoor antennas to pickup Antenna TV,MeTV etc. Antenna TV and MeTV really need to make themselves available on more streaming devices. I wouldn't mind paying a small monthly fee to view it. These channels always changing around their sub channels on a yearly basis really gets on my nerves. The kicker is that they don't let let their customers know they are changing their subs so 99.9 percent of people turn on their sets one day and Voila ! no MeTV, Antenna TV,Decades etc.etc. I just happened to hear about this as I have a friend in the local media market who has contacts.
stevea 08-20-2019, 03:32 PM MeTV could probably do streaming deals for areas with no affiliate, to pick up their national feed.

In Indy 248 is MeTV and 253 is Antenna TV.When Antenna TV was a WANE affiliate here it was on channel 250. When Antenna became a WFFT affiliate, the channel number moved to the four digit section on channel 1181. Four PBS channels are on 240-243, Bounce on 248, and LAFF now on 250. 244-246 are empty, I sent Comcast a message last week requesting Me TV, Cozi, and Light TV be put on those channel numbers. I didn't even know Fort Wayne had a Cozi affiliate until recently when I messaged them asking about live streaming their schedule like Buzzr has. You would think also with Cozi being owned by Comcast and NBC that Comcast would make it available for anyone with an affiliate. Light TV is a sub channel of a religious station. I don't have much use for the main station, would prefer having the Light sub station.

I agree and I think it would be advantageous for them to do so. With all the sub channels switching around all the time, how can they develop any advertising revenue consistency ? Years later and all these channels but TV has really gone downhill the last 30 years. Too much bickering and fighting between networks, cable companies, satellite providers, etc etc. They have totally forgotten the consumer regardless of what they say.

I hope so too; also TOP CAT. And I hope that on the first 2 seasons of THE FLINTSTONES they'll show them with the original black-and-white "Rise n' Shine" opening and closing.
stevea 08-20-2019, 09:41 PM They might do Rise 'n' Shine but I'd bet against the black and white.
I'd like to see those b/w's again, with all the Winston ads and stuff, Screen Gems in the credits, etc. They probably exist in a dark vault someplace.
I do have an original Top Cat in black and white on VHS. And a couple of original Bugs Bunny Shows, also in black and white as originally shown.
We don't even have Court TV in the Boston area here yet. It's only available on Verizon Fios and an antenna.

The original airings on ABC, which started in 1960, were in black and white for the first two seasons. I'm not sure of the reason, but probably many ABC affiliates were not equipped for color, and color was primarily an RCA/NBC thing at the time (ABC had very little color and CBS had no color). Also there were very few color sets in homes around 1960.
All of those episodes were shot in color--it's just that the TV print for ABC was black and white.
Probably by fall 1962 the show had proven itself well enough that ABC relented and showed it in color.

Here's an interesting site with lots of posts about the beginnings of color TV. There is one post about 1962 for ABC, which had one of its first color shows, The Jetsons, and the conversion of The Flintstones to color.

So that explains it.I think you may be right about the affiliates not being equipped to show them in color. After all with the first 2 seasons, we're talking the early 1960s when of course very few shows were even filmed in color. In a way it's amazing that from day one they did film The Flintstones in color, and I think the color contributed to the show being such a big hit later on in reruns.

yea; he IS right about the reason being a lot of the affiliates not being able to broadcast in color yet. That's the same reason THE LUCY SHOW on CBS was broadcast in black-and-white for the first 2 season even though CBS only filmed the first season in black-and-white and THE MUNSTERS was broadcast in black-and-white even though it was filmed in color.
So some bad news. I just checked the schedule for September 8, and it looks like we will not be getting The Jeffersons on Sunday nights.
Instead, we'll be getting local news and Matter of Fact.

TV Guy 08-27-2019, 09:32 PM The Munsters, outside of one of the pilots, and the post-TV-series movies, was filmed in B&W. The Lucy Show was filmed in B&W for the first season and color for the rest of the series, but was not broadcast in color until its fourth season in 1965. That was the first year CBS began telecasting any series in color. It was less about affiliate capabilities (ABC, a smaller network with weaker affiliates, was regularly broadcasting some series in color three years earlier) and more about CBS not wanting to use the color standard pushed by rival NBC.

omg65 09-19-2019, 08:16 AM Great news ! METV is playing musical chairs in the Columbus Ohio area. I thought I was going to lose METV as on 9/26 it will go off the air on channel 4.2. However on the same day, METV will be switching to the CBS affiliate 10.2 !! The only downer is that METV will be replacing H & I on 10.2. For me no big deal as I don't watch it too often but to the others that do,it's too bad. I'm just glad our area will still have METV. Thank you channel 10 !
Crusinforabrusin2.5 09-20-2019, 02:04 PM Maybe they could add more Hanna-Barbara Cartoons along with the "The Flintstones".
I'd love to see "Wacky Races" , "Huckleberry Hound", "Top Cat", among others again.
I wouldn't mind them adding Beany and Cecil or Magilla Gorilla as well
I've seen nothing about "Mama's Family," and it's not like MeTV would answer inquiries about it, thus I imagine it's heading off the air, unfortunately. The 6 p.m. viewing is part of my weekday routine, though I do have the series on DVD.
I've loved "The Flintstones" since I was a youth watching the reruns and newer specials, so I will watch it upon its MeTV debut.
stevea 09-26-2019, 04:58 PM You're right, Mama is leaving the building.
Mama's Family will still be shown on Logo.

So, after a month and a half and 10 pages of build up excitement, who watched tonight? How’d it look?
stevea 09-30-2019, 09:54 PM I'm ashamed to say I forgot all about it!
Maybe tomorrow...
Merry24 09-30-2019, 10:10 PM I saw it and I enjoyed it! It looked exactly how it did on TBS and or Boomerrang! The early years of The Flintstones are the BEST!
treky 10-01-2019, 01:45 AM I watched it, and it looked GREAT-they didn't crunch the credits or anything. And-at least according to our on-screen listings-they started with the first 2 episode and they showed the original "Rise N' Shine" opening from the first 2 seasons. They didn't show it in black and white though which is how it was originally shown.
Bonniegirl 10-01-2019, 02:06 AM I got home late today, :( I was able to only watch the second ep. I really enjoyed it, great to see the Flintstones again! :)
omg65 10-01-2019, 10:50 AM Love it. I believe they may have played the entire content of the episodes or at the very least, cut very little. There were not too many commercials. The picture quality was excellent.Job well done METV.

Mama's Family will return in the future after her Hatius vacation if you have cable Logo Cable channel shows Mama's family if no cable then Youtube has some episodes also
I forgot that The Flintstones was on, but I'll try to catch an episode tonight.
My local affiliate decided to drop MeTV for the Justice Network which is a slap in the face to me. I can't stand channels like that.
stevea 10-01-2019, 09:28 PM This show cracks me up. I really liked that swimming pool episode. There's really nothing like animated slapstick comedy. They can smash into rock fences and dive into drained pools tons of times, and no problem!
I'd forgotten about Barney's different voice in the early episodes. Mel Blanc sounds more like himself.
Here's an interesting quote from Wikipedia about the voicing work after Mel's head-on collision in 1961:
"Years later, Blanc revealed that during his recovery, his son Noel "ghosted" several Warner Bros. cartoons' voice tracks for him. Warner Bros. had also asked Stan Freberg to provide the voice for Bugs Bunny, but Freberg declined, out of respect for Blanc. At the time of the accident, Blanc was also serving as the voice of Barney Rubble in The Flintstones. His absence from the show was relatively brief; Daws Butler provided the voice of Barney for a few episodes, after which the show's producers set up recording equipment in Blanc's hospital room and later at his home to allow him to work from there. Some of the recordings were made while he was in full-body cast as he lay flat on his back with the other Flintstones co-stars gathered around him."
CosmicCharlie 10-03-2019, 09:52 PM Wow - I totally don't remember the opening intro without the music "vocals" - I'll see what I do remember as I watch more episodes ...

stevea 10-03-2019, 11:11 PM Neat list. As I mentioned in another thread the present credits for the first two seasons are generic, the same for each episode. The "real" credits with guest voices and individual episode director/writer credits either exist only on the black and white original network films, or not at all.
I also enjoy seeing the original openers for the first two seasons. They're the ones I remember.

That would have been great. Closest I've seen in animation--Warner Bros. did 3 shorts called The Honeymousers, with the Honeymooners characters as mice. The voices were great, probably Mel Blanc and June Foray. It's a guess because the only voice characterization credited in the 50s WB toons was Mel Blanc.
MikeLutton 10-04-2019, 07:40 PM the honeymooners as mice be funny but it not the same as the originals

I've switched to Pluto and The Dick Van Dyke Show. I'm glad to see that's on at that time. Five and six pm is a great time for classic sitcoms (like anytime is), because I usually don't wanna watch the news anymore. I tried watching Yogi Bear on YouTube about a year ago cause I thought it would be very relaxing, but I couldn't get into that either.
The Flintstones might work at six in the morning but I can't see it holding on at six at night. I think Mama's Family or another classic sitcom (hopefully) will be back soon. I'm glad others are enjoying seeing The Flintstones. Wish I could too. It might work if I was watching it for the first time.
munstercity 10-30-2019, 08:45 AM Anyone know why they skipped over episode 14 "The Prowler"
stevea 10-30-2019, 01:52 PM If it's the one that should have aired on the first Sunday (which it seems like it was), there's another post someplace that it probably had something to do with an exaggerated Oriental depiction.

Sounds like PC madness showing it's ugly head again. Maybe some sensitive snowflake at MeTV decided not to air the episode.
I don't need MeTV for The Flintstones anyway, I have the full series DVD's and every episode is uncut except for "The Big Move". I don't know what happened there but a few years ago I recorded the uncut episode from Boomerang and put it on a DVD, so now I have "The Big Move" uncut version.
With The Flintstones going to streaming on HBO Max (per the blog), it'll also be staying on ME, right?
stevea 10-30-2019, 03:07 PM They probably figure they'll get a complaint, so they decide to avoid trouble.
If they're worried, they could do what WB did on the Looney Tunes DVD sets--put up an announcement, "These episodes are a product of their time, and certain depictions may be offensive", etc. And then air the episode.

I can see putting up a disclaimer on DVD sets, but as far as I know it's something that TV stations don't normally do. Not a bad idea though, MeTV could run a disclaimer prior to the episode instead of skipping it completely. Or they could just edit out the part that they think might be offensive.
On the DVD's of Jonny Quest, I believe there's an episode where Jonny says "Here comes the oriental express". Of course the PC police removed that line from the episode on the DVD. Unreal.
stevea 10-30-2019, 03:52 PM I have the relatively-new Jonny Quest blu-ray. I haven't looked at them yet, but I have heard they're absolutely unedited.
Also bought the Jetsons blu-ray, which is supposedly from original TV prints, and restores the original credits, which are missing from a lot of Hanna Barbera toons of the day.

The DVD's of Jonny Quest and The Jetsons are good enough for me, I don't have a blu-ray player anyway and don't have plans to invest in one.
In the Jonny Quest DVD's, there's another line in an episode that got edited, a group of savages are referred to as 'heathens", this line was edited out also.
I believe the DVD's of Jonny Quest and The Jetsons utilize the same closing credit sequence for most if not all of the episodes. While this isn't good, it's not really a big deal to me. I think The Flintstones DVD's are the same way. Same closing credit sequence is used for the season 1 and 2 episodes. In season 3 when the "Meet The Flintstones" theme takes over, the episodes have their proper closing credits.
stevea 10-30-2019, 05:25 PM They do (use the same credits for all episodes). As does the Flintstones, S1 and S2 (and the first couple of episode of S3), and all the Top Cat episodes. The Jetsons (and probably Jonny Quest) were altered when they made additional seasons (at least on the Jetsons, they added opening title cards with correct director/writer credits), and The Flintstones and Top Cat probably had to do with original black and white broadcast credit prints never being developed in color.
I agree the credits aren't a big deal--but I'd like to see the guest voices from the original credits, sometimes they're interesting to know.
I recorded The Jetsons off Comcast on Demand years ago, so I jumped on that Blu-ray issue.

Yep that is the main issue with the repeated closing credits, not knowing who the guest voices are. Not a good thing but not really a deal breaker either.
stevea 10-30-2019, 06:01 PM Right.
I'd never re-buy something just to get corrected credits. In these cases I'm glad I'd never bought them in the first place. I'm also glad I never bought the Jonny Quest DVDs, with all the p.c. edits.

The PC edits in Jonny Quest are not good but I consider them as slight flaws. As far as I know, there aren't too many edits and a small number of episodes are affected, I know that Pursuit Of The Po Ho is one episode that's affected.
It's not really a favorite cartoon of mine, I watch the DVD's occasionally but I think Hanna Barbera cartoons are better in the comedy department as opposed to adventure.
stevea 10-30-2019, 07:01 PM True. I'd like to see a really good release of all their shorts--Yogi Bear, Quick Draw (totally un-p.c.), Huck, etc.

Agreed, I'd also like to see additional DVD's of Wait Till Your Father Gets Home. Episodes 1-24 were released, but not 25-48. It's a fun series but the one negative about it is that the animation looks really cheap, not at all up to the usual Hanna Barbera standards. Animation looks like it was done by a grade school child.
LUNCH 11-02-2019, 01:31 PM They are doing a pretty good job airing it.The picture quality is very good and I don't think they are cutting too much out of the episodes.
stevea 11-02-2019, 10:17 PM They're cutting the preview segment at the beginning. That's a great choice, and right, any other editing isn't obvious at all.
1960'sTVfan 11-03-2019, 08:31 AM I haven't made comparisons yet, but if I would watch an uncut episode from the DVD's, then watch the same episode on MeTV, I believe the MeTV edits would be obvious.
munstercity 11-05-2019, 11:00 AM Episodes are definitely edited down to approx 22 minutes from their original 25 network broadcast airings. Here's an idea for the next classic tv channel. How about station that airs all the programs uncut. I bet people would even pay a premium for a channel like that.
eng51squad51 11-05-2019, 11:47 AM The new HBO Max streaming service is going to have some of the HB cartoons on it https://www.hbomax.com/
Crusinforabrusin2.5 11-05-2019, 03:30 PM The Jetsons are coming to Metv in January which is awesome. I'd love to see more obscure HB cartoons such as Yogi Bear, Wacky Races, and Top Cat too. Even Scooby-Doo would be a welcomed addition.
stevea 11-05-2019, 03:53 PM Also Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, Augie Doggie, Yakky, Pixie and Dixie, Hokey Wolf...
You know, what CN should be.
That's news on The Jetsons!
BigManMike 11-05-2019, 06:39 PM I’d love to see Scooby Doo. Also Looney Tunes

Yep this is why I'm glad to have the DVD's with uncut episodes. I don't need MeTV for The Flintstones. If MeTV airs other Hanna Barbera cartoons like The Jetsons I imagine those will be edited also.
stevea 11-05-2019, 08:31 PM They're also time compressed, which is typical for MeTV. The closing theme was too speeded up, tonight.

If the only source of this is Wikipedia, keep in mind anyone can go in and put false info. in there.

That's true, time compressing is another trick these retro TV channels pull. Antenna TV time compresses shows also. I've noticed this with The Joey Bishop Show. Episodes have been speeded up so they can tack on another minute of commercials.

Information found on Wikipedia can sometimes be sketchy. While it's not a perfect site, I use it occasionally for reference purposes and overall find it to be helpful.
stevea 11-05-2019, 09:29 PM It's kind of a shock when you just have the TV going on shows like Beaver or Brady Bunch, then watch them on DVD and hear the opening themes at normal speed.
Yes, on Antenna the opening theme of Joey Bishop is obviously too fast. For some reason they do not "credit crunch" the opening of this show--maybe the opening is too short for that.
I have some old recordings of Make Room for Daddy from MeTV. It sure is refreshing to hear a show played at correct speed, and see a normal standard definition picture.

I remember when MeTV first started out, they ran many shows uncut, there was no time compressing, and as you said, the picture was normal standard definition. Unfortunately, those times are long gone. Nowadays with MeTV there's the editing and time compressing going on, along with the switch to widescreen telecasting. All of these are reasons why I prefer DVD's over watching the retro channels.
stevea 11-05-2019, 11:07 PM I have a season of Silver Spoons someone recorded off MeTV, when it was Chicago only. All the episodes ran complete, even have the original commercial break bumpers.
But whoever recorded it put too many episodes on a DVD (slowest speed), as usually happens with Ioffer sets. That causes all kinds of problems, degraded quality, audio sync off, etc.

I don't know who you got the Silver Spoons set from but it wasn't me.
When I record DVD-R's, I use either the SP/2 hour speed or LP/4 hour speed. Both of those work fine. The SLP/6 hour speed is too slow, I don't use it because it results in too much compression on the disc which can result in problems, pauses and freeze ups during playback, etc.
stevea 11-05-2019, 11:34 PM Yup, freeze-ups, jumpy motion, all kinds of problems. It's not like these individual DVDs are made of gold or something. SLP worked OK on VHS (IMO) but it's no good for DVD-Rs.

From my experience working with VHS, if I record a tape in SLP mode, I usually have to play the tape only on the VCR I used to record the tape. If I play the tape on a different VCR, there are playback/tracking problems. So with VHS, I mainly use SP and sometimes LP also. Very seldom use SLP. 4 head VCR's are the best because they produce a better picture/image quality.
How about this for a little stunt programming? They show a cartoon and it’s real life inspiration back to back. So The Honeymooners/ The Flintstones and The Phil Silvers Show/Top Cat. Any other possibilities?
Someone at ME is reading my posts....
stevea 01-04-2020, 11:30 PM Yeah I thought what they're doing seemed familiar!
