I suppose the episode would NOT have worked without that twist

But really Beav - JUST Expose the key letters

I rate this twist in the episode as POOR plot development

Yeah that was dumb. I learned to type by just keeping fingers on the home keys and using that template with the letters. As I recall it didn’t take long to get about 70 WPM. Beaver just didn’t stick with it and Gilbert was no help. Now everyone needs to type on the keyboard. I think the funniest part other than Eddie’s comic relief (Who are you the Better Business Bureau?) was how Mr. Bailey wrote that note to his parents with that fake writing. You could tell it was for show only. They cut out the part of June at the school meeting Mr. B. Why should Beaver be the only one that has to type his compositions?

Yeah and the third degree from Mr. Bailey to Beaver about the typewriter. I thought it was new. When will you be typing your assignments again? When will it be back from the shop? When did your father stop beating his wife?

I also noticed MeTV cut out June at the school. Whenever June needs to find out something, there is always some function at the school. Like the report card episode. "I distinctly remember giving him a D-."

Also Beaver tells Bailey it just sat there and got broke. If Mr. Bailey were a good English teacher he would’ve corrected his English and said it got broken.

Mr. Bailey was too worried about the typewriter to worry about a little thing like grammar.

Bailey- “Boys and girls I’d like your attention. Mr. Cleaver has gotten a new typewriter and is now typing all his assignments. So from now on I want every single one of you to tell your father to buy you a typewriter. I want every composition type written from now on, no exceptions.”

They'd need a gov't. program for any kid whose parents couldn't afford a typewriter.

They used to cut out funny lines from King of Queens, It wasn't MeTV one of the cable stations, (The one that had everybody loves Raymond)

I took typing in junior high and my teacher would always walk by and put a piece of paper in front of the keys while I was typing so that I wouldn't look at them. So I can see Beaver covering up the keys. Actually I thought that was pretty clever of him. Most kids wouldn't do that.

I think the typewriter came with black covers so you wouldn’t look at the keys. Beaver didn’t think it up.

The keys were still covered when Eddie was typing, but he knew the keyboard (you can actually DO something).

Since Beaver needed to type his next paper to make Bailey happy, he should have just uncovered the keys.

Yeah a lightbulb should have gone on. Beaver really didn’t have a lot of sense even Wally knew that. Wonder if Hugh thought they should make Beaver look smart in at least one episode. Even in Beaver the Caddie when he confronted Langley he acted like a little kid. Imagine Gilbert only got a dollar and Beaver $5. He cheated and tried to bribe him. Beaver told Langley he might play for the Lakers but never got past the first practice.

That Beaver really got around. Going to Compton's office for help. Going to Langley's office to confront him.

I'm trying to picture that happening in real life. Uh, no...

Compton would make him pay a retainer of $50 and since he already owed $30 he decided to tell his pappy.

Langley would be too busy to see him. His secretary would tell him to scram.

The librarian, Mr. Davenport, would be found dead in that office sitting in his chair and Larry would still be asking ‘Do you have anyone here who’s not dead?’

Even if he got in to see Langley in the real world, a weasel like him wouldn't admit anything. Maybe he'd slip him another ten to keep his mouth shut.

Yeah I forgot about the librarian. They should have done a Seinfeld and had him be a library cop. OK kid we'll put both you and your old man in solitary. With nothin' to read.

Kinda like Burgess Meredith in TZ with all the time in the world to read but no glasses.

it sure did, i always thought Mrs. Cleaver was sort of nosy, she was always finding something in the trash can.

Without getting too graphic let’s name some embarrassing things June could find in the boys’ wastebasket that she would report to Ward about. Letters were tame.

How about a bottle of uppers?

Maybe the telephone number of the Fun Girls from Mt. Pilot! They made their first appearance in Mayberry in 1962 so they could have been around the last part of LITB. No doubt Eddie would have somehow gotten the number but then had done his best to make sure WALLY got in trouble for it!

I can just imagine Daphne running her fingers thru Wally's hair and saying, Hello, doll.

Anyway, back to the trash can, how about a bank holdup note, and extra money in Beaver's jeans pocket (which of course she has gone thru, too).

In the later Beaver years June is not my fav for sure - like you said the trash barrel or the coat or even the bureau draws - she was on a mission - In many scenes she barely smiles
