Did it seem like TAGS toned down the southern culture references once LBJ got into the White House?

Interesting a lot of the characters who supposedly lived in Mayberry their whole life didn't have southern accents. Andy even lost much of his as the series went on. Then, a towns person in an episode would pop up with a heavy over the top southern accent.

We know that Helen is from, I think, Kansas or Missouri, Warren is from Boston (as his Uncle Floyd might also be), Emmett and Howard don't seem particularly Southern.

Ernest T. Bass, Gomer and Goober Pyle and the Darling family, heavily Southern.

Funny on Green Acres and Petticoat Junction , the older people all had southern/ mid western accents . And the young people didn't except for Eb.:D

Eb had a strong accent but the Bradley girls didn't nor anytime they ever showed high school or grade school age kids they didn't either . ;)
