View Full Version : In Line or On Line?
Penny Lane 08-01-2019, 05:19 PM We discussed this phrase a while back. In Michigan we say we are "in line" for something. Someone mentioned that in New York they say waiting "on line". Well, I was watching an episode of Kate And Allie , which is set in New York City, and Kate mentioned waiting "on line". I had never heard that before. Where you live how do you phrase it?
Steve_uk 08-01-2019, 05:22 PM I thought you were in Cornwall with Jason Walton.

Holy moly, that was one of the first threads I started here (wish I could find it)
I remember being smacked down for saying "on line", but if I have Kate and Allie on my side I feel totally vindicated.

HuntingtonM15 08-01-2019, 09:51 PM IN LINE!!! I’m sorry but when I’m in New York and hear “on line,” it drives me absolutely mad. It makes zero sense!
PhoenixAcres 08-02-2019, 09:46 AM Everyone around here says in line. Waiting "on line" sounds like you're waiting via the internets.
In parts of Europe I think they say "in queue".

Exactly! Thank you! The next time someone asks me if I'm "on line" I'm going to tell them I'm pretty much always online, thanks to T-Mobile.

It's okay that you're wrong. Don't be mad about it. Live and learn

Nope. But it's okay that you like to use expressions that don't make any sense. :violin:
We all have our preferences!

Please point out where I used "in line", the expression that doesn't make sense
PhoenixAcres 08-02-2019, 12:58 PM This thread should probably be moved to the politics section. It's way too controversial.

Unless you're hovering over a line of people, you're certainly not "on" a line, gurl.
