Jones’s arteries had hardened from drink and drug use and he was ‘slowly dying’
But medical tests failed to detect the problems before fatal heart attack in 2012
US pathologist Dr Michael Hunter says he uncovered the damage in an autopsy
Monkees star Davy Jones died from a heart attack a year after doctors mistakenly told him he ‘had the heart of a 25-year-old’ (https://radaronline.com/videos/davy-jones-had-heart-of-25-year-old-before-death/), it has emerged.
In reality, Jones’s arteries had hardened from his drink and drug use and he was ‘slowly dying’ long before the fatal attack in 2012 when he was 66.
Friends claimed in a new episode of American TV series Autopsy: The Last Hours Of… that he went through several medical tests that did not detect the damage.
His biographer, Eric Lefcowitz, said: ‘The year before he died, Davy told us all that they’d said he still had the heart of a 25-year-old. He looked extremely fit and healthy for his age.’
But US pathologist Dr Michael Hunter says his autopsy told a different story, according to a report of the documentary in The Sunday Express.
Dr Hunter blamed alcohol and marijuana use for the poor state of Jones’ arteries, and said stress caused by the breakup of his third marriage to dancer Jessica Pacheco could have worsened the problem.
On the day he died, the Daydream Believer singer complained of a pain in his chest caused by heartburn.
Dr Hunter said the state of his heart suggested he was masking how much pain he was really suffering.
The pop icon – who was born in Manchester – married 33-year-old Ms Pacheo in August 2009.
In May 2011, the singer said he was having some of the happiest times he's ever had in his life.
He explained: 'We have love. We have friendship. She’s also aware of what I’ve done in music, and the fact that I no longer really need to prove anything.'
Jones joined The Monkees in 1965 along with Micky, Peter and Michael Nesmith – who did not rejoin the group for their shows last year – and they went on to record a number of hit records including Daydream Believer, Last Train To Clarksville and I'm a Believer.
