Hi all, nice to meet you. I was wondering if someone might be able to help me out with placing this scene. All I remember of it is that Jo was in her bedroom and she was talking to a guy who was sitting in her window. This episode probably aired in 1985 or 1986, but I’m not sure about that. I was a kid when it aired, and the guy in the scene made a big impression on me. I guess you could say it was the first time I felt a crush on someone. Being a first on that way, the scene became a (fizzy) memory that my brain held onto. The random things we remember! Anyway, I’ve wondered who that actor was and would be grateful if anyone knows or recalls the scene/episode that I’m remembering. This is probably a long shot, but I figured it was worth trying. :)

Hi Gremlin! Welcome to the boards!

I'm afraid I can't help you out because I don't really follow the show after the Eastland years (which ended circa late '83), but I know there are other folks here who might remember that scene.

This scene? It's from Till Marriage Do Us Part in season 9. She was proposed to and this scene made her say yes.

Almost forgot, the actor in this scene is Scott Bryce.

Hi, Retroguy, thanks for the welcome and reply. :) Looks like we’re reversed with the FoL because I never saw the Eastland years.

Christopher, that could very well be it, wow! I had remembered it being earlier than that. I would’ve been in 2nd grade when this ep aired, and I thought I had been younger than that, more like kindergarten age, which would’ve been 85/86 for me. But vague memories are weird and can blend with other things, so it may have actually been later than I’d thought. And what are the odds that there are more scenes with Jo talking to a guy in her window, lol. I’d remembered the scene being one were Jo was sort of worried or sad about something and the guy said things to help her feel better, but maybe that was the proposal part. Hmm, this could definitely be it! I’m not sure why that guy sent my young heart into a frenzy, but that he did (if it’s the same guy I’m remembering, and it most likely is). Thank you so much! I thought I’d never find out who that had been. :) I’m amazed that you knew what I meant!

Wow! The Eastland years are classic!

I did see the later seasons, and even remember a few episodes, but I cannot watch most of them now. I do own the first four seasons on DVD.

This is my favorite show. I've seen majority of the episodes probably thousands of times. It's not hard pinpointing a particular episode. If you need anymore help with other scenes / episodes, let me know

In the particular scene I brought up, he tells Jo about how their kids will go to all these colleges. Jo asks how and Rick says by getting real jobs to afford them. It makes her feel mushy inside and says yes. As for another scene where she's talking to a guy at the window in the later years, I don't believe there is. This is the only scene where she does that.

I grew up loving TV like Mike TeeVee, and even I haven't seen episodes of my favorite show "thousands" of times!

Well I don't know if it's been a thousand times actually, but I did grow up watching this show for 3 decades. It's very possible I have. I have the show recorded on VHS tapes from USA to N@N to Hallmark to Tubetime. I used to have that marathon on USA with the cast interviews recorded until my VCR acted up and ate the tape. My tapes were rewatched a lot until the show came out on DVD. Once the show became released on DVD, I made digital copies for easy viewing. I usually always turn the show on after I get done with my current shows which today are very few shows I watch due to how crappy TV shows are now. I like the friendship between the girls and the chemistry they had when acting together. I think that's why I never get sick of this show.

I mean, I could see thousands of viewings of a show as a whole, but the majority of all 209 episodes thousands of times?? Let's see, the first "thousands" number is 2,000 (in my book, lol, the first plural "thousands"). So if you watch one episode 2,000 times, let's multiply that by 209. You would have watched 209 24-ish-minute sitcom episodes up to 418,000 times.

If you divide that evenly by 30 years, you would have watched about episodes about 13,933 times per year. If you divide that by 209 episodes, you would have watched each episode about 66 times per year.

If I'm doing all this math right.

Oh man, you must have been crushed. I feel your pain. I had a couple of FOL documentaries and CHARLOTTE'S ENTIRE 2-HOUR 90TH BIRTHDAY BONANZA on my DVR, until it recorded a 16-hour block of Olympics (I didn't mean for it record THAT much!) and wiped out a lot of what I had on there. #CRUSHED

Wow, you really "live" with these girls!

And the sets. I love, LOVE LOVE those Eastland sets. The beautiful, homey pale yellow paint of the cafeteria and lounge and kitchen, the coziness of Mrs. Garrett's bedroom and the fun "permanent pajama party" feel of the girls' room...with the characters, the stories, and the sets, it's very easy for me to to spend so many hours with our "gang". :)

Interesting statistics. Well I know for a fact seasons 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 get played WAY MORE than 66 times per year in my place. As I've mentioned before, The Facts of Life is my first choice to watch when I'm needing something on. I just start up the show and let it continuously play throughout the day. My friends and family will tell ya there's a 99% chance when coming to my place that The Facts of Life is playing  A lot of times seasons 1, 5, and 7 get thrown into the mix. A handful of season 9 episodes since that's all that is worth watching that year. It's just a show I prefer over others. I also even did a marathon of the show playing straight through. I started it at midnight on a Monday morning starting with the pilot episode The Girls School and let it play in order with the movies until the reunion movie was over. That's how I know it takes almost 4 days to watch this show straight through. I remember getting stuck watching episodes I didn't prefer that week like The Fight and The Interview Show

I was crushed when my USA tapes would mess up. When the show went to N@N, I learned not all cable stations have the same syndication edits. N@N would include scenes USA left out and vice versa. It was neat seeing new footage of the episodes until the DVD releases started so we could see how the episodes were meant to be.

The sets are alright. I'm not a picky fan like some hard core fans are about background settings or hairstyles and fashion with the TV show of their choice. The girls kept their chemistry working together throughout the entire run. That's what makes this show special and fun to watch. They clicked together and you can see that they really liked working together.

Holy cow! :cow:

Wow...I couldn't do that with my favorite show. I just personally wouldn't want to be seeing it that much all the time. I like having some time away and then "coming back".

But now, a show to be constantly watching, I would probably choose this one above most others, if I were going to do that. In fact, I binged nearly the whole series this spring, and was kinda feeling in the mood to watch "the Eastland years" again this summer.

My friends and family will tell ya there's a 99% chance when coming to my place that The Facts of Life is playing

lol, fun. Yeah, since not much is worth watching these days, I'll usually binge old favorites instead like this one, "Mr. Belvedere", "Who's the Boss?" (which I'm currently on, in season 4), "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch". And this summer I binged season 1 of "Gimme a Break!" and the Mrs. Garrett years of DS.

Haha, wow! Funny though, just seems like it would take a lot more than a mere 4 days to play through every episode. I guess just 'cause "209" and "9 seasons" seem so looooong, lol.

Right?? I noticed that on "The Golden Girls"; some syndi cuts would be different than other stations'. I was fascinated.

The sets are alright.

"alright"? "alright"?? LOL...they are so beautiful in their utter charm. So fresh, so welcoming, so light, so cozy, so...so perfect!

That's just funny to me this is your absolute favorite show, and you only find the sets "alright".

Well, I'm not picky at all, I'm praising! lol

There are some shows I can't do this with. Mainly dramas. I just get to where I've seen them so much I take a long break from watching again.

It's very easy to have this show be addicting. It's a fun show and not overly dramatic or even annoying IMO.

I tried Who's The Boss and Sabrina. I didn't last long. While I definitely prefer seasons 1 - 4 of Sabrina, I learned it's really not as funny as when I was a kid watching the show.

As I said I have all the episodes and movies on my computer. I did a properties check to see the length of all the episodes and it comes to about 88 hours. This is including the pilot episode from Diff'rent Strokes and the reunion movie. I'm including a screen shot of the window. I remember the playlist stopping Thursday evening.

That's why I'll always buy old TV shows on DVD. I haven't had cable in over a decade and probably never will. It's a shame how syndication ruins these classic shows for advertisements.

It's the actors / actresses that make a show, not the environment they're in. They could be set in a different country being in a war and it would still be fun to watch because of how well they click together. If the actors / actresses don't have chemistry together, the show will not be a success for viewers. That's my opinion anyways :)

That's funny, for me it was the opposite, lol. I remember watching S in its original run and liking it, but finding the humor/laughter "different". Then when I tried it again when I was older, I felt like I clicked with it, and I've really enjoyed binging the first 3 seasons for several years in the fall (last year I decided to try season 4 and really enjoyed it as well, though I don't think I'll go for her college years. I might enjoy it, but I just don't feel the push to try at this time).

Yeah, that's pretty cool. That reminds me of when Twitch online streamed all the seasons of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" twice in I think 2017 and 2018. It was 24/7 non-stop, and no ability to pause or rewind for viewers. It took about 2 weeks to get through And for those 2 weeks, for both streamings, in the hours when I was at home it was SO hard to tear myself away from it to get up and get food, or take showers, or make myself go to bed.

Well, I wouldn't say they ruin them. I mean, I'm not thrilled by the cuts by any means, but I think it's great that new generations can at least be exposed to these great shows, and then maybe seek out DVDs on their own. I have cable for now, mostly for nature/animal shows, some movies, and some other/older things I like to watch. But I'll probably cut it at some point.

Well, here's my differing opinion, lol. :) I can't agree that it's the actors that make a show and not the environment (I mean, that the actors are the only thing "making" the show, anyway). For me, the environment is definitely part of a show, sometimes almost like a character in itself. And I am very sensitive to surroundings. So to me, it really is a heavy ingredient in a show. Relating to your example, I've never tried watching "M*A*S*H*" because I do not want to watch a show taking place in that environment. Most of the sitcoms I love, I find having environments that to me are very charming, warm, light, inviting, and special to that show. And I love it when the base sets have certain details/touches that are quite specific to that show.

I tried Who's The Boss and Sabrina. I didn't last long.

Also, one thing I love about WTB is the wonderful adult interaction. FOL doesn't have much of this at all, focusing on adolescent/teenage girls. That's one thing I liked about Miss Mahoney, was it gave Mrs. Garrett a fellow adult woman to interact with. And of course there was Mr. Bradley.

I like how these shows I love have so many stories and episodes only they can have. FOL, WTB, Mr. Belvedere, The Golden Girls, Cheers, Designing Women...they all have unique ingredients that make them stand out in their field, and story possibilities only within those very shows.
