View Full Version : What Series Went on Too Long? Greenbeans 07-12-2019, 01:20 PM Drama - Castle Sit-Com - Mash (producer admits that) According to Jim - it got grim the last 2 years, Duster76 07-12-2019, 02:09 PM MASH is the classic example, great series one of the best shows of all time, but after season 5, maybe 6 it became more and more bizarre with each passing season. The cast was aging, the circumstances were aging as well. Laverne and Shirley, the California move was ridiculous. The Real McCoys, the final season with half the cast eliminated. Andy Griffith Show the final three seasons. mandyrenee 07-12-2019, 02:12 PM Murder She Wrote MA 07-12-2019, 02:13 PM Cheers Night Court Frasier AMackII 07-12-2019, 02:58 PM Gunsmoke: It should've ended after Amanda Blake left Family Matters: It would've gone off the air after Season 8 A Different World: Season 6 was a big downgrade from seasons 1-5 Dallas: the show was not the same without Victoria Principal during the later years. Coffeecup 07-12-2019, 05:47 PM I wonder why Amanda left Gunsmoke. Looking back the show was in its 19th season and strange to think only one more season although unknown to her was in the works. Steve_uk 07-12-2019, 06:12 PM Murder She Wrote Sad but true. Heenan Fan 07-12-2019, 07:43 PM Cheers Night Court Frasier Cheers was the #8 rated show overall in it's last season (1992-93) and was still good in my opinion. I agree with you on Night Court and Frasier though. I'd ad MASH, The Cosby Show, and Roseanne. MA 07-12-2019, 07:44 PM Cheers was the #8 rated show overall in it's last season (1992-93) and was still good in my opinion. I agree with you on Night Court and Frasier though. I'd ad MASH, The Cosby Show, and Roseanne. I can add those to my list, and I'm glad that you agree with me on Night Court and Frasier. king of comedy 07-12-2019, 08:51 PM Don't forget Happy Days. It should have ended after Ron Howard left. AMackII 07-12-2019, 09:08 PM Charlie’s Angels: Too Bad both Tanya Roberts & Shelley Hack never followed the footsteps of Kate Jackson though. factsoflife 07-12-2019, 09:55 PM Designing Women: really should have ended when Delta Burke left the show. The Julia Duffy season was horrible and it really went to hell when Jean Smart left shortly afterwards. glickmam 07-12-2019, 10:14 PM Kids Incorporated - should have ended with Fergie's departure Homicide: Life on the Street - likewise with Andre Braugher Law & Order - likewise with Jerry Orbach Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - likewise with Christopher Meloni TSMIV 07-12-2019, 10:44 PM NCIS should have ended a long time ago. Happy Days dragged on way too long. Smallville should have ended with 7 or 8 seasons. I'd ad MASH, The Cosby Show, and Roseanne. While Cheers could still be funny at times I think it probably should've ended after 7 or 8 seasons. I feel like the last couple of seasons they were running out of ideas. Ed. I feel like the last couple of seasons they were running out of ideas. Ed. 7 or 8 seasons? Really? That's ridiculous. They were #4 overall in season 7, #2 overall in season 8 (Cosby and Roseanne tied for #1 that year), and #1 overall in season 9! Like a fine wine, Cheers got better with age. treky 07-13-2019, 12:52 AM definitely MASH-it should have ended after season 7 when Radar left. Some shows mentioned I liked the entire time. king of comedy 07-13-2019, 02:58 PM The Big Bang Theory Little_stinker 07-13-2019, 03:32 PM The Beverly Hillbillies The out of their element joke really was only good for the first few seasons. dee2364 07-13-2019, 03:52 PM im stil waiting for Simpsons and Ncis to end OMG, yes. I just started high school when The Simpsons shorts first started airing on the Tracey Ullman Show. Now I'm 30% gray and almost 50. How is this show still on the air? How many fresh ideas could they have at this point to keep going? That's right. They have 2 more seasons but they should go after season 32. Nobody can keep doing the same thing for so long without adding anything new or fresh to it. Criminal Minds is going off and I'm glad but Hawaii 5 O and Blue Bloods should pack it in. jimpickens 07-14-2019, 01:47 AM MASH went on longer than the Korean war itself Happy Days should've ended when they boys finished high school The Cosby Show Married With Children The Big Bang Theory Edward216 07-14-2019, 01:54 AM 7 or 8 seasons? Really? That's ridiculous. They were #4 overall in season 7, #2 overall in season 8 (Cosby and Roseanne tied for #1 that year), and #1 overall in season 9! Like a fine wine, Cheers got better with age. Good grief don't get so bent out of shape about it, it's just my opinion after all. But there was some stuff that just got old. Ed. Yong Fang 07-14-2019, 07:35 AM I have not watched The Simpsons since probably the 1990’s· I used to be a fan of the series when it first came out for about eight seasons then I lost interest and the show became repetitive. I wish they would have let the characters age, maybe one year every two seasons. Would be fun seeing the kids in their 30’s and even close to 40 and the parents older. The other characters could have gone on to other things. But keeping the kids, kids for thirty years, how many times can one say Kowabunga or whatever it is. I guess for its time slot, early Sunday evenings, it does well enough. Probably FOX doesn’t want to lose theirs link to their beginnings. Odd this from the FOX network which cancels shows almost immediately. Fox doesn’t play, if the show doesn’t have ratings in a month, it’s killed. It’s like Tony Soprano is their programming director. scrapple 07-14-2019, 10:04 PM The classic examples of this are The Andy Griffith Show and Bewitched. Both shows were wonderful their first five years, but the cast changes that happened in season 6 just made the shows mediocre. Bonanza definitely should have ended with the death of Hoss, as should Gunsmoke with the loss of Miss Kitty. I disagree about Frasier, though. I enjoyed all (or most ) of the 11 seasons. Very smartly written show. Crusinforabrusin2.5 07-17-2019, 08:55 PM I Love Lucy - By the later run , you could tell Desi was becoming less and less interested. All In the Family- Another iconic show that overstayed its welcome. It was hit in 1970 , but by 1976 , it had worn thin. What was once groundbreaking comedy was now a shell of its former self. - Married with Children. A very crass show that overstayed its welcome by a longshot. Show relied on juvenile humor to get its laughs. Granted , it was funny , but it went on for 11 years.
