View Full Version : Julie Anne Haddock on Hollywood's Children (1982)
RetroGuy2000 07-04-2019, 11:40 PM Julie Anne's interview in this documentary (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujXLCCe61e4) starts at 48:30.
There are several things that struck me about this interview.
Lorimar Television 07-05-2019, 04:22 AM Great find retro! They even mention FOL. I wonder if this was when she was still on or after her firing?

This aired in February 1982, so shortly after she was no longer on the show. Her last appearance, until TLC, was in November 1981.

Interesting. So she was still pursuing acting after FOL

Definitely. She even appeared in a couple of episodes of a TV show called Boone, which aired in 1983. It was at that point that she seems to have left the industry, for the most part.

*ahem*, after her being let go. ;)
Nah, I know, some guys on this board like to say the "f" word, but I still prefer the LG phrase, lol. :happyface
'80sSitcoms 07-07-2019, 11:45 PM Great find, Retro!
Some bittersweetness about it though...she loved being a child actress, and wasn't going to stop until she was an old lady...aww! :(
And I dunno about you guys, but I cannot watch that without thinking of Jonathan Dutton and Tootie in "Pretty Babies" all over the place!

I know! And she's just a year or so away from calling it quits in the industry, although she doesn't know it at the time. In "retro"spect, it's a little heartbreaking to her her talking about how she doesn't want to quit until she's old, knowing she'll very soon leave the industry.

YES! Thank you! :rotflmao:
I deliberately didn't say anything because I wanted to see if you guys would notice it. I just said, "There are several things that struck me about this interview", very neutrally.
But here she is, being dolled up by the photographer, to look more adult. And then in the voiceover, they talk about her not wanting to do nude photography. WTF!? Why was that even a question? And the photographer even resembles Jonathan Dutton.

Haha, yay! Glad it wasn't just me!

 Yeah, her mother brought it up, but I was hoping it was from a place of "when discussing acting with Julie as a young teenage girl, they advised her not to do nude scenes when she grew up, and then they heard her remark or had a discussion where she said she just would not do that; it's not her".

I was definitely reminded, but then again, I have seen PB a dozen or more times.

Whatever the reason they brought it up, it definitely gave it a "Pretty Babies" vibe that I can't now un-see or un-hear.
One of the cool things about this interview, though, is that we got to see Julie Anne one more time in Cindy's trademark tomboy braids!

I don't know if I've seen it a dozen or more, but those Eastland years are a part of my organic DNA, as they are yours.

Yeah, that's why I was thinking (hopefully) it was just in conversation with her parents, lol.

Oh yeah, after she said she didn't want to be remembered for her hair! (shhhh, Retro!)

RetroGuy2000 12-09-2019, 10:47 PM Watching this again, I'm still in shock at how positive Julie Anne was that she'd continue in the industry. One year later, everything had changed.
80s Dude 12-24-2019, 08:47 AM At least Julie Ann seems to be happy where life has taken her all these years later.

She seems happy, and that is a very good thing, but it is hard to watch this video, where she says she wants to continue in Hollywood, and know that one year from when this video was made, Julie Anne would leave Hollywood. What changed her convictions so completely?

Julie Ann said in a documentary on the FOL that she wanted to be a normal teenager and hang out with her friends. Maybe once she returned to "civilian life", she liked it and decided to do something else with her career.

I wonder if Julie Ann's mother's comment had anything to do with one Molly Ringwald scene in the Tempest where Molly's character Miranda was skinny dipping and the pervy guy who lived in the cave was spying on her and she catches him in the act. Molly is shown with her back to the camera, but it's obvious she was not wearing anything from the waist up. The Tempest was a very strange movie.

That's a good theory, but it cannot be. This video was broadcast in early 1982, but The Tempest didn't come out until August 1982.
However, it's possible that Julie Anne's mother was referring to other pervy films of the era. I know Brooke Shields was shooting very racy material (including topless, underage scenes) around the same era. It was a weird era for film.

You're right: she did say she missed her friends. I hope we'll get more of an explanation in the upcoming documentary.

What’s the upcoming documentary?
RetroGuy2000 12-24-2019, 08:57 PM What’s the upcoming documentary?
Reelz Channel is filming a new FOL documentary (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=386903). We know Julie Piekarski, Julie Anne Haddock, Geri Jewell, and Felice Schachter will be in it. We're hoping Molly Ringwald will, too. And of course, the Core Four. Reelz Channel has these boards a-buzzing!
Rumor has it they'll tell all, with behind-the-scenes stories and never-before-seen footage from the sets of FOL. I just started that rumor, actually, but here's hoping it's true, nonetheless!

Hey, a girl actress in the '80s put down "Blue Lagoon" in a TV interview as being exploitative. Was that Molly Ringwald?? I can't remember for sure...but I'm thinking it was.

That could have been Molly. IMDB says she auditioned (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080453/trivia) for the female lead role. Those auditions are apparently on the DVD.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I'm remembering it being Molly. I just can't remember which interview.

My Google-fu has failed me, tonight, but I don't doubt that you're right. It totally sounds like a Molly Thing to say. It's probably in the Article and Photos thread already, or it might have been during one of her Late Night Brat Pack TV interviews.

Or it could have been on her Merv Griffin (sp) appearance, or maybe even in her "Pretty in Pink" DVD adult interviews.
