I wonder if Morgan Fairchild fits the bill for example? During the '80s, she just kept turning up everywhere - magazine covers, on talk shows. But depending on your point of view, she was really just a very pretty woman who was more famous for being famous than anything she actually did. What I mean is that she really never lasted in anything much that was on your radar - and seemed to be in B and C grade stuff - mostly flops.
