View Full Version : MeTV credit crunching now storrs19 06-20-2019, 11:33 PM Well it looks like MeTV has finally joined the rest of the networks and began to crunch credits at the end of shows. At least at the end of The Carol Burnett Show on Thursday night they sure did 😡 Too2muchtv 06-21-2019, 12:33 AM Wow, your thread title really sent me into a panic! I did record Carol Burnett along with quite a few other shows on Me today, so I was able to go back and double check. Yes it looks like for that Carol Burnett episode they did "crunch" the original show credits but it was to add additional credits on the outer part. I think that was just done for that specific show, this is a new repackaged version of the original 1 hour variety series, right? They didn't crunch the credits for Hogan's Heroes right before it, nor were they crunched today for Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Rifleman, Wagon Train, or the Jeffersons. They already time compress their programming, maybe that's why they're able to get away with not crunching the credits as well. I hope they never start doing so, that would be terrible. storrs19 06-21-2019, 02:46 AM Yes I noticed they didn’t do it to Perry Mason so maybe it was just for this specific episode of The Carol Burnett Show. I’ve been enjoying seeing these. Of course I’d like the hour long versions but I know that isn’t going to happen. stevea 06-21-2019, 07:42 AM Time compression has been going on for quite awhile on MeTV. At times in the past it was really obvious at certain times, but they've probably refined it. As long as they're the number one diginet, and the combination of time compression and editing is working, I hope they won't do credit crunching. tlc38tlc38 06-21-2019, 08:07 AM They need to “crunch” Joe Namath. I’m so sick of seeing that man tell me about all the “benefits you deserve”. BigManMike 06-21-2019, 09:19 AM They didn’t crunch Green Acres either. This title sent me into a panic too. If this network starts crunching credits, then I’m done with all ota retro networks. Heenan Fan 06-21-2019, 03:04 PM YThey need to “crunch” Joe Namath. I’m so sick of seeing that man tell me about all the “benefits you deserve”. I guaranteeeeeeee it:eek: I love Joe Namath, but I agree with you tlc, every single commercial break for cryin' out loud. Thank God for the mute button. treky 06-22-2019, 01:39 AM they don't do it to MASH,ANDY GRIFFITH, GOMER PYLE, GREEN ACRES and HOGANS HEROES so it looks like they're not, thank god!!! Becca3557 06-22-2019, 11:06 AM I haven’t noticed it on Andy Griffith or Perry Mason - the only shows I am able to catch these days. I hope I never see it either. eng51squad51 06-24-2019, 10:28 AM MetV does not do any Credit Crunches CoziTV did do credit crunch split screen for awhile then they stop now when a show is finsh they go stright to the next show without going to a commercial break on Adam-12 episode they do the credit at the bottom while the last part of the show s still playing then they show last credits then go to next show. Too2muchtv 06-24-2019, 01:07 PM I've noticed that Cozi TV skips the closing credits altogether for "My Favorite Martian", they don't even show them at the bottom of the last scene of the show. At least there's no crunching though. I have some of the original episodes so I compared them to see what was missing. The originals are 25:30 minutes long and the episodes as shown on Cozi are 21:30, so along with the 30 second closing credits there's an additional 3 minutes 30 seconds cut from each episode. There was no time compression, they're played at their original speed. treky 06-24-2019, 04:13 PM I've noticed that Cozi TV skips the closing credits altogether for "My Favorite Martian", they don't even show them at the bottom of the last scene of the show. Thank God for the mute button. I don't know why we're seeing all these medicare ads now. It isn't even open enrollment time. I don't like that one with Namath either, but I'd take it over one of those loooooong ads on Antenna TV, like Lifelock, Proactive, the SPCA, or that stupid spray-on makeup. I think they run 3 or more minutes. 1960'sTVfan 06-24-2019, 05:34 PM This is why I have DVD's of most of my favorite shows and seldom watch the retro channels. DVD's aren't always perfect, sometimes episodes are edited, but DVD's are much better than having to watch the retro channels and put up with all the crap they pull. The only time I rely on the retro channels is if one of them is airing episodes of shows I like that aren't available on retail DVD's. During the past year or two I recorded the episodes of Peter Loves Mary and The Girl With Something Extra from GetTV, also recorded the episodes of The Joey Bishop Show and The Paul Lynde Show from Antenna TV. I won't record shows from GetTV now because they switched to widescreen telecasting. GetTV used to be fullscreen but not anymore. I sometimes watch Home Improvement on Laff since it’s one of the few shows they don’t crunch. I also occasionally will catch The Jeffersons or Green Acres on Me but other than that I really don’t watch any of these retro channels much. With bad schedules and credit crunching, most of them just aren’t worth it. 1960'sTVfan 06-24-2019, 10:10 PM Same here. I almost solely rely on DVDs. With bad schedules and credit crunching, most of them just aren’t worth it. MeTV was a great station when they first started out as a retro channel for Chicago in 2005. In those early days, MeTV aired many of their shows uncut, there was no time compression or credit crunches. They would also show an old commercial occasionally. Since then, MeTV has gone nationwide and still going strong, but comparing what they were at the beginning to what they are now, they are a shadow of their former self. stevea 06-24-2019, 10:38 PM They showed Silver Spoons uncut, even with the original bumpers. I have S4 from there, but the seller jammed too many episodes onto one DVD (an all-too-common thing to do, which I never do). I assume they showed the other seasons that way, too, but my earlier seasons are from another source. bgva 06-24-2019, 11:31 PM I dunno what the OP saw on that episode, but I just watched the end of The Carol Burnett Show, and there was no crunching. treky 06-25-2019, 01:03 AM I dunno what the OP saw on that episode, but I just watched the end of The Carol Burnett Show, and there was no crunching. yea, I watch GREEN ACRES and HOGANS HEROES on there most weeknights and occasionally ANDY GRIFFITH and STAR TREK on the weekends and they never crunch the credits on those. jehobden 06-27-2019, 11:07 PM Me-TV occasionally crunches Burnett show credits, but I notice that this happens rarely. It only seems to happen for time, and often the regular credits run over the final segment while the longer credits run faster on the outside. The first time I noticed this happening was the rerun of "The Funn Family". I've read that this was a 25-min. sketch, so to rerun it, Me-TV had to take everything else out of it, including the opening (aside from the title) and the closing (which was sped up to fit the remaining time). I see him at my local grocery store all the time. That's often enough. And to contribute to the thread... I'm a cord cutter, so the only 24/7 retro channel I watch is Buzzr on Pluto TV. Has all my 80s and early 90s favorite game shows. MikeLutton 07-01-2019, 08:20 PM Laff tv is crunching credits to BigManMike 07-02-2019, 09:17 AM Laff tv is crunching credits to They’ve been doing that since the beginning of 2018 along with sister networks Bounce, Grit, and Escape. Thankfully they don’t crunch Home Improvement so I watch that one sometimes. There’s nothing else I like on Laff so I don’t watch it otherwise. Unfortunately Bounce crunches Moesha and The Game so I don’t watch those. VisualSensation 07-03-2019, 08:31 PM The diginets peaked a few years ago right before some of them started credit crunching. Now nearly all of them do it. There are too many diginets now and the fees for obtaining the rights to the shows are going way up, and the viewer experience is only going to get worse until the herd is culled. I used to watch nothing but diginets but the only time I watch them now are shows I haven't seen in many years (right now, only Amen on GetTV). Anything else I watch on DVD or streaming. I could be ahead of the curve on this trend because I'm in a market that has had access to nearly every diginet since they started operating. Hazel Anyday 07-03-2019, 10:47 PM There may be a lot of diginets but most of them are crap, TBD (I still don't know what in the world they do), Charge which was good for 5 min. when they ran Avengers and Secret Agent Man now it's Walker 24 hours a day(why is it that any station that ever runs Walker seems bound and determined to show it 24 hours a day, Grit TV, Get TV, you name it TV, they all run this show to the ground). But to get back to my pernt, I wish there were MORE classic TV channels around that would actually show REAL CLASSIC TV, where's Amos & Andy, Great Gildersleeve, Life With Elizabeth, Love That Bob, Bing Crosby Show, I Married Joan, Margie, Ozzie & Harriet (all episodes not just the Public domain ones), Tell It To Groucho, Truth Or Consequences, you know REAL old time TV shows not endless Amens and 227s and all other modern day crap that passes as "classic" today. I'd like to see REAL Classic TV diginet channels, just one real one would be nice. For a tiny bit GET TV seemed to be interested in showing real obscure classic TV, but that lasted only about 6 months, then it was on to Walker and Norman Lear's brand of "Classic TV", don't make me choke. I's regusted. Couldn't agree more with RetroTVchannel & Big Cookie previous comments, I watch ONLY DVDs of my favorite REAL Classic TV, I never watch a so-called retro TV channel live as it's on. My DVDs are not only commercial free (or if not I can zap thru ads with the fast forward) but more importantly they are always on when I want them to be on on my own schedule. When & What I want whenever I want, what could be better than that? Live TV, phooey. Why should I depend on them to not only show what I want but why should I watch by their schedule? No thanks, hello DVD player.:D Not only do shows you love always get taken off (if they're ever shown) but it may be decades before they ever show up again. If it weren't for VHS tapes I would have waited decades to see Hazel. treky 07-04-2019, 12:49 AM There may be a lot of diginets but most of them are crap, TBD (I still don't know what in the world they do), Charge which was good for 5 min. when they ran Avengers and Secret Agent Man now it's Walker 24 hours a day(why is it that any station that ever runs Walker seems bound and determined to show it 24 hours a day, Grit TV, Get TV, you name it TV, they all run this show to the ground). But then with live TV watching you do have to change the channel once in a while when your favorite show isn't on when you want it to. Then, of course, there's also the hours you spend sleeping waiting for live TV to show your show when you're not ready for it anyway. Let's review, change DVD to watch favorite show when you want or wait for hours for show to be on that you want to watch when it's on when you're not even home to watch it. Hmm, which is the best way? |
