Star Trek actress Marina Sirtis has broken her silence on the sexual abuse she suffered as a child.
The London-born star, 64, told The Times how she was molested by her babysitter's teenage sons when she was three years old.
The actress, who found fame as Deanna Troi on Star Trek: The Next Generation, explained the abuse left her with decades of psychological damage.
'My mom used to leave me with a baby-minder and it was her teenage sons who molested me,' she said.
'I never told anyone because even at three you know it's shameful and you think somehow it's your fault.'
She continued: 'I had an eating disorder for 20 years from the age of 13, which is a fairly common response to molestation.
'When I finally did get to therapy in LA - everybody in LA is in therapy, it's a given - everyone in my group had been sexually assaulted at some point in their lives.'
Sirtis grew up in Hackney, east London, and trained at the Guidhall School of Music and Drama.
She worked on stage and screen in the UK before moving to Los Angeles in the hope of landing more high profile roles.
Shortly afterwards she was cast as Deanna Troi, the popular spaceship counsellor on the USS Enterprise. The show, which also starred Patrick Stewart, aired from 1987 to 1994.
Sirtis also appeared in four Star Trek films and has met fans at 'hundreds' of conventions over the last 30 years.
The actress is now back in her hometown of London to make her state debut in Dark Sublime at Trafalgar Studios, which opens next week and runs until August 3.
