Here's an issue I wish to open: the mystery of the tag sequence of The Monkees TV series' second season debut on NBC, Episode No. 33, (first aired 9-11-67)---which hasn't been seen in reruns of late!

You notice how, after the episode's chase climax set to “What Am I Doing Hangin’ ‘Round?” (http://members.tripod.com/~colli/pisces/what.html), instead of going to a tag sequence and then the end credits, it skips the tag and just goes on to the credits? According to its entry in the Screen Gems Storylines, “It’s A Nice Place To Visit...” (http://members.tripod.com/~ahiii/season2/visit.html) originally ended with David Jones tearing away from kissing Angelita (Cynthia Hull) long enough to knock out El Diablo (Peter Whitney); now, whether this was actually used in this episode is unknown to us Gen-2 Monkeefans.

At first, I thought Rhino (http://www.rhino.com/) would do the episode---and us fans---justice by including the missing tag as part of the Monkees Deluxe Limited-Edition Box Set (R3 2960) back in 1995. Then I recieved an e-mail message that Rhino didn't include it after all. I actually contacted Rhino (http://www.rhino.com/) about it, too, but they said they didn't have personnel which specifically researched material of this matter.

Why hasn't “It’s A Nice Place To Visit...” (http://members.tripod.com/~ahiii/season2/visit.html) been rerun with its tag sequence intact? Could it be that it was trimmed to accomodate tight airtime space and forgotten? Did it include sensitive material the Mexican/American community might find offensive? Or did it really include a tag sequence at all?!

I ask those of you Gen-1 Monkeefans who saw “It’s A Nice Place To Visit...” (http://members.tripod.com/~ahiii/season2/visit.html) in its original prime run on NBC, or fans who came into the show (and the group) via syndicated repeats on your local independent station in the 1970s long before MTV grabbed the show up in the 1980s (I noticed that, for reasons unknown, it wasn't included in The Monkees' 1969-73 CBS/ABC Saturday Afternoon run) and let us know. Did you see its tag sequence, and, if so, what transpired in it?

I think a public-domain VHS copy (or a copy of a copy of a copy) of the original NBC broadcast feed of “It’s A Nice Place To Visit...” (http://members.tripod.com/~ahiii/season2/visit.html) from 9/11/67 or its repeat on 12/18/67 (both sponsored by Kellogg’s™; provided they exisit and are circulating!) might hold the answer. A 16mm, 1200 ft. safety print of this episode is tucked away within the vault of The ATAS-UCLA Television Archives available for research; maybe it retains the "lost" tag, too.
