The Zachary Levi-hosted awards show fell from 3.08 million across all Viacom channels last year to 1.8 million this year. Among young viewers, ratings dropped 46%. On MTV alone, the MTV Movie & TV Awards attracted just 434,000 viewers — less than half the 903,000 who watched on MTV last year.

Not surprised ratings are still continuously in decline. Then again, most networks are still in decline especially kids tv channels

MTV used to have some really good shows in the 90's like Daria and Beavis and Butt-Head, but shows like The Hills and Jersey Shore gave the network a bad rep over the years. I did think Teen Wolf was good, though. I know some people miss when they played music, but you can watch any music video (or listen to any song) you want whenever you want these days.

Not sure where to post this, but in my opinion I'm not surprised that something just happened in MTV Movie and TV Awards..

MTV hasn't been culturally relevant in about 20 years, especially since there aren't the caliber of musicians to prop it up. And besides, Vevo is the new MTV.

About five years ago, Iann Robinson, who was a correspondent for MTV back in the 2000s wrote an article (https://www.mandatory.com/fun/140550-analyzing-the-end-of-music-television) that examined how and why MTV fell (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/alt.tv.mtv/$20mtv$20demise%7Csort:date/alt.tv.mtv/1jBER9Sb6nQ/aifVU38A1z0J) into irrelevancy (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/alt.tv.mtv/$20mtv$20demise%7Csort:date/alt.tv.mtv/TwuzuB1HaJo/JK4rLSGhf0IJ).

Nobody wants to be preached to by arrogant, self important celebrities and that's why viewers have fled in the millions from all of these award shows. They all spew so much hate that it turns viewers off.

Surprising to me that MTV is still on. It is not part of my parents TV “package”. It seems like an obsolete medium now. It no longer has music videos, but that won’t work because people can go to YouTube for that. MTV even back in the glory days tried to be someone for everyone which diluted who they were.

Beavis and Butthead was a great show. David Letterman said this was one of his favorites. Daria was good too. But this was back in the 1990’s. What does the channel do now? Like I said the business model is totally obsolete since there is YouTube. I wish we had YouTube in the 1980’s. I would not have wasted so much money in albums and music. Could just dial in YouTube and listen to whatever I want for free.
