To give a quick background: the last season of Family Matters aired on CBS, not ABC. The show’s ratings had been on the wane for a while, probably due in no small part to how insane it went in the last few seasons of its existence, as we have all observed here. After one unsuccessful season on CBS, it was cancelled (https://ew.com/article/1998/06/05/family-matters-canceled-after-9-seasons/) unceremoniously. But there had in point of fact been plans for a final season (https://familymatters.fandom.com/wiki/Season_10) that would have given it a proper sendoff. The only catch being that this season would have been even more insane (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/34abzw/does_anyone_remember_the_bizarro_final_season_of/) and dark than all the other ones put together!

To start with, the season would have revolved around Steve Urkel and Laura’s wedding. Myra (who would have been portrayed by another actress as Michelle Thomas (https://blackthen.com/%E2%80%8Bdecember-23-1998-michelle-thomas-died/) had already been diagnosed with stomach cancer and had to undergo treatment (https://people.com/archive/forever-young-vol-51-no-1/)) would have gone full on in her attempts to sabotage the ceremony after serving a brief stint in jail for stalking Steve. Stefan Urquel would briefly have returned, at first taking part in Myra’s plans but ultimately having a change of heart and foiling her instead.

Myra would then have fallen for one of Steve’s various cousins, who had only been featured in a single episode before, ultimately getting over her obsession and eventually departing with her new boyfriend to tour the country. Stefan would have been welcomed into the Urkel family and start to get to know his relatives, including Myrtle-before the revelation that the cloning process Steve used to make him was unstable, and in the end Stefan would die-but since this is a family show and they can’t show a realistic death, so instead Stefan would simply say his goodbyes and then vanish into nothingness.

But his “cool” essence would have been absorbed into Steve, granting him better posture and a deeper voice. The series finale would have seen the birth of Steve and Laura’s first child-even though technically it wouldn’t be Steve’s kid since now he would be a Steve/Stefan hybrid of sorts.

So glad it ended and season 10 didn’t happen. It should’ve ended with season 8. I love the show but season 9 wasn’t that good, especially when the Harriette replacement came in.

I think it should've ended at 7. Season 8 was nothing but science fiction plot lines and jumping the shark moments.

For the record there is no credible evidence that any of these supposed 10th season plotlines were ever anything more than internet rumors developed over the years. Pretty much the only place you can find any info about these 10th season plotlines at all is from the family matters wiki site. And that site doesn't require any sources at all for the updates people make. A lot of people think this season 10 stuff was just lifted off of family matters fan pages back in the day.

I agree, there is no evidence that these plot lines are from the producers. How would they have known which actress would replace Myra when, at the time of the supposed 10th season renewal, she was still alive.

Yeah the way those synopsis handles the Myra character is one of the biggest clues that they likely are fan made and have no connection to the people that made the show. Season 10 would have come out ( and likely the majority of the season would have been filmed) prior to Michelle Thomas passing away. So there wouldn't have been any dedication to her in an episode airing in September and definitely wouldn't have been any talk about a recasting. The whole thing really seems like something created after the fact. My guess is that those season 10 synopsis originated sometime in the early 00's on those fan sites that were around prior to YouTube and Facebook being a thing. And some folks liked them and decided make it their personal Canon.

Because of what happened with Michelle Thomas (Myra), I am glad that the show came to an end without a wedding for Laura and Steve being shown.

God bless you and her family always!!!

Season 10 of Family Matters was going to be full of a lot of surprises; some expected, some definitely not. While it was clear that with the engagement of Steve and Laura in Season 9 wedding bells weren't far off, it would have been certainly a surprise to fans to find out Laura was also pregnant soon after her nuptials. But that was definitely the plan for Season 10's grand finale.

Perhaps it makes sense - the conclusion of one of America's favorite sitcoms about the bonds of family ends with another little family being started. Just imagine a baby crying with the same annoying pitch of Steve Urkel's laugh and be happy that this storyline never made it to airing.

That's just a writer for screen rant. They aren't an official source and they give no official sources in the article. They themselves were probably just reading what was on the wiki.

I watched this show from 89 as a 8th grader to 1998 as a senior in college and had no interest in seeing a season 10 of this show

edddie was grown and over 20
steve was grown and over 20
laura was grown and over 20
max was grown and over 20
the original mom was gone
waldo was grown and over 20

Season 10 for what? lol

Waldo was gone after season 7. But mother Winslow and Richie both disapeared midway through season 9 so it was definitely time to move on. Plus Eddie had moved out. Steve and Laura were about to move out. So they would have had a harder time making plots centered at the house when most of the charachters didn't even live there anymore.

Can anybody confirm or backup this information (from a wiki page about Family Matters) that I'm about to present (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/so-judy-winslow-would-have-returned-for-the-family-matters-finale.3009213/)?

If the show continued on into its final season, Judy would have attended Steve and Laura's wedding and revealed she had been living with her aunt Rachel in Detroit. Had the show not been canceled Rachel and Judy would have returned home for Steve and Laura's wedding

It should've ended after either Season 7 or 8.

Family Matters ran for a total of 9 seasons, but there has been a lot of talks and rumors that the show was scheduled to run for one more season before they were hit with cancellation.

So let's explore the season that never was.
