Well for all of you TV addicts, it is that time of the year, where all your favorite sitcoms and shows have finished their season and we have to wait about three months for another season and another crop of our favorite programming.
I guess TV has done this since the 1950's, basically having a TV season about the same schedule as school. September to December. Then no new shows around the Christmas/New Years break (around December 15-January 15) and then from January until May. Then we have to wait the three months until the shows come back on.
Why not have new shows of favorite shows in summer? Does TV viewing really fall that much during the summer season? Even if people are on vacation, invariably they are watching TV at night. It seems this would be a good time at least to try out new shows which may be wavering for the Fall to come on TV. I also think that summer would be the best time to have new programming since kids do not have to go to school and have more free time. I know as a kid of the 1970's and early 1980's I could stay up past midnight watching SNL (and Fridays on ABC) and other shows.
Why is Fall such a great time to have a new TV season? I personally love Fall. Actually this is the time of the year I like to be out, to be busy. Kids are back in school and everything goes back to the "swing of things' after summer vacation. If we call it a "lazy summer" it is a summer in front of a TV set. It is also very hot in a lot of the USA so people do stay home. It is like opposite winter in that way.
It sucks I cannot watch Young Sheldon or Mom for three months. I guess Netflix and other services will take over the slack and since there are so many more channels now that there will be some new offerings that are not part of the Big Four Networks. But I wish they would make and have new episodes in the summer months, Lord knows these people make enough money.
