Jodie Whittaker is turning 37 today. Whitaker studied acting at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and made her acting debut in a production of Aleksandr Ostrovksy’s The Storm in 2005. Her subsequent stage career has included starring in West End productions of Clifford Odets’s Awake and Sing, and Sophocles’ Antigone, in the title role.
Whittaker made her feature film debut in Roger Michell’s Venus in 2006, starring opposite Peter O’Toole. She went on to appear in supporting roles in films like Perrier’s Bounty and Attack the Block. In 2016, she gave an acclaimed performance starring in the British indie comedy Adult Life Skills.
Whittaker has appeared in several BBC miniseries, such as Tess of the D’Urbervilles and Return to Cranford. She costarred on the crime drama Broadchurch for all three of its series. But these days, Whittaker is best known for her role as a character with the catch phrase of “I’m the Doctor.”
