I just watched the Perfect Strangers episode featuring Carl Winslow for the first time. During the episode, he mentions that he moved into the same apartment building as Balki and Larry. Also, in the pilot, when the front door is opened, we see a hallway, rather than the outside.

However, also in the pilot episode, the opening credits feature shots of the exterior of the Winslow house and the backyard is also shown later in the episode.

When the front door is opened in the second episode, the outside is seen clearly.

What's the story here? Was the original plan for the Winslows to live in an apartment building? If so, does anyone know why the pilot seems to handle the situation sloppily at best? Was the apartment considering a temporary housing solution while the family moved into their own house?

Maybe they didn't know what they were using for an exterior shot in the pilot. I'm sure by the time they decided what they would use they wouldn't just use some random other establishing shot for the pilot.

I hate when settings are altered. I could be wrong, but in the first episode of this show, the stairs in the kitchen are not there yet either.

God bless you always!!!

P.S. And yes at the end of another Perfect Strangers episode, the one named Piano Moves in season four, the living arrangements are mentioned there too.
