Currently watching Modern Family On USA at 12AM on May 24 Friday 2019.Theres a voice talking saying what the characters are doing or at on occasion “Jay pets the dog.” “Man jumps on hood of the car.”

On Young Sheldon on CBS at 8pm on May 23 Thursday 2019. “Boy lays on bed”.
“Girls play outside.”

I’m through Spectrum is this happening to anyone else?

Thanks for any help.

I don't know. Please be sure you let us all know what happens next though, please.

Could it be some kind of variation on closed captions turned on?

Weird things happen. When I tuned on the TV yesterday, there was no sound on any channel. When I turned the cable box off and on again, it came back.

That’s strange Stevea

I googled it and I guess I have a certain caption on that does it to some shows. I hope I turned it off.

A few months ago, I must have hit the setup button on the remote by mistake. Well, it turned the sound off on some channels and put Spanish on some others. Turned out I hit some option on the cable box that had to do with English language. I had to chat Comcast to figure that one out.

When I was watching TV yesterday, the guide wouldn't show and had to unplug it.

It could be demon possessed, but more likely someplace in the settings it has the descriptive option turned on, it is kind of like closed captions but for people who need assistance in some aspect of their vision.

It's called Descriptive Video Service (DVS)

Yeah, you probably hit something on the remote by mistake, too. And if the remote is sitting on the sofa, anything can happen.

Edoug is correct. It is indeed called Descriptive Video Service and it's used to help blind people watch TV shows by describing what the show's episode is about through a voiced narrator. Some sitcom DVDs and movie DVD's have Descriptive Video Service options on them as well. What I can recommend you to do if you want to turn the Descriptive Video Service off is go to your guide menu and go to the menu section marked /Closed Caption/V-Chip Settings and click the Descriptive Video Service off
Hope it helps you Merry24

This has been occasionally happening to me and it happened after I read this thread. But, it's strange because it only happens on two ABC channels and only after 8pm. And the V-Chip Setting isn't listed in the closed captioning section. I called my cable company and they said they don't even offer the Descriptive Video Service.
