Has anybody else not realize this until listening to the Go Bayside podcast about Saved by the Bell. It makes so much sense now what that show had a weird 1950/60s wholesome vibe sometimes. One has to wonder about the phrase “go steady” and why everyone in the '80s and '90s where using telegrams to relay information.

To me, an awesome job was done on the show.

They often had this patronizing, "after-school special" vibe, where the morals (https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:s6WcXHK2A5wJ:https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/tv/1997/09/21/meeting-a-higher-standard/d67c1f1d-e9a0-4ebe-b1ab-63fb6200c531/+&cd=11&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us) are as subtle as a jackhammer. For example, they could have someone start smoking, then soon after his uncle (https://web.archive.org/web/20190116125817/http://www.californiadreamsreviewed.com/category/all-episodes/season-3/) gets lung cancer, he stops. Or if someone gets drunk for the first time, they end up driving and crashing his car. They all immediately vow never to drink again.
