Debra Winger is turning 64 today. We have quite a bit of coverage of Winger here at Le Blog, including a WTHH article (https://lebeauleblog.com/2013/02/02/what-the-hell-happened-to-debra-winger/) that tells you about all the roles that were part of her career, and a What Might Have Been (https://lebeauleblog.com/2014/03/01/what-might-have-been-debra-winger/) article about the roles that weren’t. So today, I’ll just hit the high points.

Winger first became widely known for the late-1970s disco musical Thank God It’s Friday. She then starred in Urban Cowboy, and received BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations. In the early 1980s, Winger was a Best Actress nominee twice in a row, as a factory worker in An Officer and a Gentleman, and a mother with terminal cancer in Terms of Endearment.

Winger remained a prominent actress for another decade or so. She starred in films such as the legal comedy Legal Eagles, the thriller Black Widow, and the mystery Everybody Wins. She received a third Best Actress nomination as Joy Davidman in the 1993 drama Shadowlands.

During the mid-1990s, Winger decided to take a break from her career. She began working intermittently again in the early 2000s. During that decade she was an Emmy nominee for the Lifetime movie Dawn Anna, and an Independent Spirit Award nominee for Rachel Getting Married. Recently, Winger has starred on the Netflix series The Ranch, and was a regular on season 2 of Amazon’s Patriot.
