Was the eskimo sweater it really a girl sweater?

I don't see what would have made it a girl's sweater. I think most clothing stores are split by sexes, and they probably were then, too. Maybe it was on a display at the front of the store, but a sales clerk probably would have clued June in if it was a girl's sweater (but not necessarily).

Why couldn't Beaver have teased Judy and said, Hey, you bought a boy's sweater?

I found that weird too. Why does it have to be a girl’s sweater? It looked much better on Beaver and made Judy look foolish. We never did see the two of them wearing the sweaters and they could have formed a club. At the end June and Ward are convinced it’s a girl’s sweater too. I wouldn’t want a sweater you could part in the middle.

I was just thinking about that yesterday, in fact.

When Larry saw Judy in the sweater, how did he know it was a girl's sweater?

You know, Judy could have made a mistake, too, and gotten a boy's sweater.

But of course, it wouldn't have been a story otherwise. No boy in the 1950s-60s would want to be seen in a girl's sweater.

If the boys hadn't been surprised to see Judy in the sweater (you always think of better stuff to say after the fact), they really could have "given her the business" and laid it on thick about her buying a boys' sweater.

You're right, though, then there wouldn't have been an episode. This isn't "Leave it to Judy."

$13 in 1959 is $113.01 in today's dollars....a bit pricey for a 10 year old kid even by today's standards

It was probably made with real polar bear.

That was expensive. What would a more usual price have been kids sweater at that time?

While the sweater seems to have been a bit pricey, it's surprising that the purchase of it seemed to have gutted Beaver's college fund and there seemed doubts he'd be able to pay it back before looking through brochures in high school!

I saw this episode not too long ago. Women’s button up clothing has buttons on the opposite side than men’s do. It seems that would have been noticed at some point.

Good point and the salesperson would have told June “oh this is a girl’s sweater.” I have to say it probably wasn’t in either boys’ or girls’ department just the newest addition from the 49th state.

Probably so, Scrabjan1.
