"With an iconic title like NYPD Blue, if you do a reboot, you need to nail every aspect of it with no margin for error," reports Deadline's Nellie Andreeva. "For that reason, I hear that ABC’s NYPD Blue pilot will not be going for fall. I hear ABC brass remain high on the project but feel it needs a little more work. The pilot, among the buzziest dramas at ABC this season, will be tweaked and likely undergo some reshoots for midseason consideration." ALSO: ABC is also retooling Heart of Life, the John Mayer song-inspired drama pilot (https://deadline.com/2019/05/heart-of-life-abc-drama-pilot-inspired-john-mayer-song-redeveloped-1202612432/).

"NYPD Blue" Remains in Contention with Retooling

At the Disney upfront press event on Tuesday morning, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke addressed the decision not to proceed with the "NYPD Blue" reboot in its current form.

“The bar is incredibly high, particularly on reboots,” she said. “It would be disservice to fans if we put it on before it’s ready.”

For that reason, “in concert with the producers, we decided to slow down and get it right, particularly NYPD Blue which was an groundbreaking drama on this network,” she said.

ABC passed on the NYPD Blue revival pilot because "the bar was so high" (https://tvline.com/2019/08/05/nypd-blue-revival-pilot-abc-cancelled/)

ABC hasn't given up on an NYPD Blue revival (https://deadline.com/2019/08/nypd-blue-reboot-get-different-incarnation-abc-1202661936/). "There are conversations about continuing it but possibly in a different iteration," ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke tells Deadline. Meanwhile, Burke tells TVLine the decision to not pick up the pilot was "heartbreaking." “The main problem was that the bar was so high,” she says. “It was a very good pilot. On any other network, in any other circumstance, that show (likely) gets on the air. For us, we kept the bar really high. We all felt like unless we can really advance the ball from the original let’s let the original rest. They did as good a job as one can do with something that is that revered.”

I REALLY hope they don't do this. They will ruin this show if they try to redo it. It was groundbreaking in its own right and I think they should just leave it as is.
