"Star" Canceled by Fox after 3 Seasons, Being Shopped to Other Outlets
by Nellie Andreeva, Dino-Ray Ramos
May 10, 2019
Fox’s music drama "Star" has been canceled after three seasons. Its producing studio, former Fox sibling 20th Century Fox TV, is already shopping it to other platforms.
"Star’s" cancellation is not unexpected. "Star" raked in solid numbers but hit a ratings low last November. The musical drama is expensive to produce, and its international sales have been challenging, which made the renewal decisions a bit more complex.

Fox Calls "Star" Cancellation “Tough Choice” & Comes as Network Wants to Give "Empire" the “Send-Off It Deserves”
by Peter White
May 13, 2019
The cancellation of musical drama "Star" was a “tough choice” for Fox but came as it wanted to give "Empire" the “send-off it deserves.”
Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier told Deadline that the "Star" cancellation was tied in to the fact that it wanted to prioritize "Empire" as it moves into its sixth and final season.
Speaking on Fox’s upfronts press call, Collier said, “We looked at our priorities and were trying to prioritize giving Empire the send-off it deserves. The move [of Empire] to 9pm, made it a challenge because Star was always the lead-out from Empire and obviously we don’t have the 10pm hour, so it was another tough choice in a year where we were prioritizing Empire and obviously some of the other shows that we’ve put on the schedule.”

May 30, 2019
Weeks after Fox pulled the plug on "Star", co-creator Lee Daniels admitted Thursday that the show could not find a new home and will not be back, despite his best efforts.
Word was that Daniels was attempting to rustle up interest in fourth season of the musical drama with the likes of BET, OWN and Amazon, but clearly those efforts didn’t bear fruit.
