Svenfan1234 05-10-2019, 05:59 PM Actually, it's "the best of" The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle USMC, and Mayberry RFD. Not the complete series of any.

The Time Life site is specific on what you're getting, 64 episodes of TAGS, 24 episodes of Gomer Pyle and 16 episodes of RFD. The reunion movie is also included. TAGS, Gomer Pyle, and the reunion movie are all out on DVD. There are 7 episodes from season 1 of RFD which have already been released, so the original content is 9 total episodes from season 2 and 3. Doesn't seem worth the price tag.
Heenan Fan 05-12-2019, 06:35 PM It doesn't look too impressive too me. I like Paramounts 50th Anniversary DVD set better. Comes with the reunion movie as well.

stevea 05-14-2019, 08:46 AM If they were remastering episodes of RFD why didn't they just go ahead and do seasons? The unedited original episodes (of seasons 2 and 3) aren't available anywhere.
Gomer Pyle has lots of music issues on DVD. If Time Life is true to form, they either chose episodes with no songs, or they cut them.
I recorded the infomercial. Guess I'll watch it.
cloggedmind 05-14-2019, 10:18 AM Time-Life always edits shows they release, just like A&E always did. We’ll find out in time. I wonder what TL cut from the Stooges sets that were recently released?

As we know RFD season 1 has been released twice, and the evidence suggests it was not successful on either occasion. That said, the package makes no sense, well over 90% of it is already available. At this point, I think some collectors who have not purchased the reunion film might be willing to plunk down the money for the entire RFD series and the reunion movie along with the bonus features. I just don't see any value in the package in its current form.

Wouldn't it be much easier to click the quote button if you're going to quote someone?
loaferman 05-14-2019, 04:45 PM When they offer installment payments for DVD's you know you are paying too much. This would only be worth it if it were stuff not readily available on previous releases of which I see very little of if any.
MichaelMartinD 05-29-2019, 11:15 AM Is the picture quality improved from what it's like on the Paramount season DVDs?

I looked at the "deluxe" picture on the page. It's just the complete series set of TAGS they released in 2016.
The regular edition of the Time-Life set is $120. The "Deluxe" edition , with TAGS complete series set, is $199.
At the time of this post, if you bought on Amazon, the complete series sets of TAGS & Gomer Pyle, Mayberry R.F.D. season 1, TAGS 50th Anniversary DVD (with the movie & The Danny Thomas Show episode), TAGS: Christmas Special DVD (the colorized episodes), and the Andy Griffith ICON CD (the CD they show on the Time-Life site), that comes to about $140, maybe less if you by good used copies of the DVDs and CD.
They only good thing I see about the Time-Life set is some episodes from seasons 2 & 3 of Mayberry R.F.D. . I would pass on this collection and just hope for seasons 2 & 3 of Mayberry R.F.D.
I bought this set primarily for the new RFD episodes. One pleasant surprise so far is "Barney Mends a Broken Heart" and "The Darlings are Coming" are both unedited on the Time Life set! Barney Mends a Broken Heart has the epilogue, and the Darlings are Coming has "Salty Dog" and the Epilogue included.
Haven't checked the Gomer Pyle episodes yet, but if anyone wants to look at the Time Life list and tell me the name of an episode they know is edited on the other releases I'll check it out.
