"The Cool Kids" Canceled by Fox after One Season

It seems like "The Cool Kids" are no longer cool enough for Fox. The network canceled the comedy starring David Alan Grier, Martin Mull, Vicki Lawrence, and Leslie Jordan after one season.

"The Cool Kids" premiered last fall to solid numbers. Its September debut (2.1 18-49 L+7 rating 10.2 million) was the most-watched Friday broadcast comedy debut in almost six years. The comedy also held onto a significant part of its "Last Man Standing" lead-in early on.

Last October, Fox picked up the multi-cam series for nine additional episodes for a full-season order to 22 episodes. Since then, "The Cool Kids" has been fading, more recently pulling in a 0.6 demo rating in Live+same day and just over 3 million viewers.

I don't know what happened here, but much like the old saying, a giraffe is a horse designed by a committee, the idea was good but the design was terrible. Every mistake that could possibly be made was made. Basically this was to be "The Golden Girls" for the baby boom generation, well what made that series work? Rather than ask that question, they tried to pull something together to please everyone. We have to have a woman, we have to have an African American, we have to have a gay representative, and we have to have a old hippie, who of course had to be a white male, and we have to put them in a retirement community (because they're old). The entire show felt contrived, and it's a damn shame because this should have been a hit. I hope someone will take another look at this, Ned and Stacey became Will and Grace, Arrest and Trial became Law and Order, the idea of doing a series about aging baby boomers is good idea, The Cool Kids was just bad execution.

It had potential.

I never watched it but I thought it was one of the better shows that debuted just by watching promos for it.

No surprise. They were dragging down LMS's Nielsen ratings big time.

I adore the stars but the show itself was el-stinko.

That's a shame because I personally loved it.
